I’m a bit confused why Elliott says Cubomania is heading here when he’s already rated 147. I can’t imagine The handicapper would downgrade his rating for staying in his box
Elliot confirmed Dinons Is heading here on his Twitter Q&A
Every now and again a horse appears which people won’t hear a bad word said about. This year it is PP. As I’ve said many a time, PP is clearly a good horse, but he’s not bomb-proof. He might well win the Gold Cup but I think there’s a danger people are turning a blind eye to the case against. He’s not Altior.
I agree Jack. In fact I would this year’s Festival is more wide open across the board. I think it’s a function of the mild weather restricting runners. I just wonder whether this might shift the balance in favour of those horses who have managed 3-4 runs, particularly in the Novice hurdlers.
I’m on Champagne Platinum for this and was pleased to read Henderson’s comments about Geraghty loving the horse. On the topic of Angel Breath, whilst Henderson clearly loves him I do pick up a sense of anxiety from him about not having gotten another run into him. That said, he did liken him to Altior, prior to his Supreme.
Do you have a bet down?
Oh I see – He will keep as many horses as he can in the race and hence less drop outs than usual. Got it.
VTC – What do you mean by “Elliott’s Plan could be an issue”?
Delighted with the weight assigned to Missed Approach. He clearly gets the distance having been second to Tiger a Roll in the 4m Novice Chase at Cheltenham. That was on level weights whereas he’s on 10st 1 lb for the National. Greatrex has been on record all season that this is his target. He just needs to make the cut now. Is this likely?
Some goods selections and prices there Mike. I particularly like the odds you’ve secured on Angels Breath, Lalor, Ballyward, Laurina, Topofthegame and Battleoverdoyen.
Obviously the 8-1 on Presenting Percy is wasted what with Might Bite up against him but you never know.
He had quite a bit to do at the end of the race and I think he finished it off nicely. He’s definitely not slow that’s for sure. He seems to comfortably find more when asked. Difficult to say how it compares but I really like him.
Dinons features on Gordon Elliott’s fourth lot today with some very interesting horses. It would appear he hasn’t been forgotten at all

Not a bad 4th lot in Cullentra this morning, up the straight gallop. Vid to follow pic.twitter.com/jyvoU5LtR6Very interesting…..

Elliott now seeming to suggest Envoi Allen might turn up at Cheltenham
“He’s a nice horse. Jamie said he couldn’t pull him up, he said it was the start of the back straight before he could pull him up. He looks a very exciting horse. He’s obviously in the Cheltenham bumper and I’ll have to talk to the owners. He could have been very vulnerable there today on a track like that, but he showed that he’s a good horse.”
Thanks Guys. Pleased with that. He has a chance….. fingers crossed. How many times have we all been in this situation though. Hopefully they’ll find the easiest race possible now.
Just placed a bet on Commander of Fleet to win today at DRF and any race at the Cheltenham Festival (special with William Hill) at a boosted 75-1. That seems very generous to me. Max stake allowed £20.
Is there a Britain vs Ireland lens at play here? Perhaps just a little bit?
Personally, I would love to see Buveur D’Air win again, not least because I have him in numerous multiples, but I wouldn’t say he is banker material, certainly not like Altior. I have Melon in a single for this, as I did last year, only because Buveur D’Air has been so prohibitively priced all year for an antepost bet.
I’m not sure Cheltenham is Buveur D’Air’s track to be honest. Do you have any bets at play for this Jack / Jaso?
Hi Mike,
Great to get the perspective of Ruby Walsh – which must give you some comfort. Thanks for sharing.
The only thing I would say is that Coneygree won the Denman Stakes at Newbury prior to his Gold Cup success and the Denman Stakes, as you know, is a Grade 2 Open Company Chase. Hence it doesn’t really address the point that PP hasn’t raced in open company over fences.
