RIP Greville
One of my all time sporting heroes got me hooked on racing as youngster when winning the Arc on Star Appeal. Was possibly one of the finest judges of horses amongst the jockey fraternity.
He was instrumental in establishing John Dunlop, Henry Cecil, Michael Stoute and Guy Harwood as top class trainers.
As I recall was especially good with front runners.
Mine’s one shared by many, at least of my generation. piled up over £300 in ante post vouchers at all prices on Dancing Brave for the 1986 Derby.
Needless to say I didn’t feel that Greville Starkey was hard done by when jocked off in favour of Pat Eddery.
20+ years later that’s still the most I’ve ever bet on one horse, I guess I learned a lesson.
I’m looking forward to seeing Amaakin one of Chapple-Hyams who allegedly worked well last summer but never made it onto the Racetrack, but still holds a Guineas entry.
By the way Bulwark, Rail Link is also at stud been kept by Juddmonte, £12,500 a pop seems a bit pricey to me.
I suspect that he may have a problem with the white substance, hence he is in denial and deluded enough to continue appealing until there is nowhere else t go.
What I wonder about is how he get’s 2 positive tests in France but never gives a positive over here.
How rigorously are our testing procedures applied?
Maybe the bad publicity for the sport of kings isn’t considered acceptable collateral damage in this country.
Or perhaps the guilty man only indulges on trips to France.
Sad news. I thought he was going to win it before he fell last year and couldn’t believe the 25/1 antepost about this years champion hurdle. Shame we will never know how good he could have become.
Just goes to show, most horses should be 25/1 just to make the line up of any given race let alone win it.
But then again, what about Silent Oscar 50/1, beat Macs Joy, Harchibald, Hardy Eustace and Ikititaf at level weights on it’s last run.
I like CDG a lot and backed him at Cheltenham, he began his career with a guy who has trained 1 winner in the last 5 years and since joining Moffatt has improved out of all recognition. As I recall a certain M Pipe was a past master at turning other peoples donkeys into champions.
At the end of the day judge the Chief by his potential and what he achieves, not by the races he lost as a youngster.
Not such a coincidence, time of the year and showing my age with one of my best winners and therefore favourite NH horses.
I like the look of Snowy Morning as well, this is a race Willie Mullins knows how to prepare a horse for, though I was hoping for better than 9/1.
I make it he’s 20lb better off with Denman on Royal Sun Alliance running.
Also 20/1 e/w Sir Rembrandt is interesting, he’s 31lb well in on his best ever rating.
