I’m old enough to remember Barry Brogan. He was a brilliant jockey who rode good winners for Ken Oliver and was then stable jockey to the great Fulke Walwyn. That’s how good he was. He won the King George on The Dikler and the Scottish National on something else. I particularly associate him with a superb two-miler called Even Keel, who was very fast over his fences. Booze beat Brogan early on and he went wrong. ÂÂÂ
This thread is astonishing. It’s packed full of debate about what figure Moscow Flyer and Azertyuiop ran to, who might be better suited by which course, what the time was, etc.
For God’s sake people, we’ve just witnessed one of the greatest races we’re ever likely to see and all people can talk about is ratings!
What about the excitement, what about the drama? Didn’t you get a buzz when the crowd erupted with a huge roar when MF outjumped Cenkos and went ahead down the back straight?
And when Ruby brought Azertyuiop closer and looked to be going better towards the Pond fence, and it seemed that the great duel we had all been waiting for really was about to happen, didn’t that get a surge of adrenalin flowing?
And when MF jumped the last fences so well, and suddenly Azertyuiop wasn’t getting there, but Well Chief was challenging, and then up the Sandown hill, where so many races are turned round, didn’t you all get that fantastic feeling of excitement, of being witness to something wonderful?
Didn’t it bring a lump to your throat when Geraghty pointed his finger into the air as Moscow Flyer passed the post after one of the truly great races of the last 10 years and more, because it meant so much to him?
177? 176? 175? For God’s sake, who cares?
