Thanks BlackGold – I suspected so.
Just to say I was at Hexham and the jockey Henry Brooke was very patient answering questions about Oscar Tanner as was clerk of the course James Armstrong.
Sadly, most of the crowd didn’t even seem to even notice he’d broken down.
Anyone who loves horses should have a look at Jim Boyles rehoming page on his website. I don’t do Facebook but his rehoming page on there does your heart good. At least you can feel sure poor Intomist was loved.
Agree entirely linnet. But the non racing public who in the main know nothing about it will have plenty to say. And everyone – except me – will continue to buy the paper.
I think Animalaid said he was leaning against the fence. And of course they’re never wrong.
I understood Adam Kirby was there.
RubyLight – I must refresh your memory if you think you haven’t seen such things before. I refer you to May this year and your comments regarding the unfortunate Nedzers Return
Sad and unpleasant though that was however, at least he wasn’t completely stripped of dignity like Wigmore was, although maybe that’s debateable.
As an aside, the Animal Aid description of Wigmore Hall’s life makes it sound like one of unrelenting cruelty. I’m hoping their version of his career is incorrect.
Wigmore Hall was a lovely horse and I’ve been extremely upset this week about his death and all this fuss seems to have given him a fame he probably wouldn’t want.
It would appear he was being operated on for colic.
Sad to lose a lovely horse.
I may be wrong but from what I’ve understood previously the gun is used because it’s the quickest, most reliable and least painful. Apparently injection needs a massive dose, can take time and sometimes needs a second dose.
I’m no expert so that could be wrong, just what I’ve understood from the people I know within racing and from horse owners I know.
Personally I think that, if the horse can’t be saved, then relieving his suffering is more important than waiting for familiar people to arrive.
And I’m not sure what the Mirror intended – this is hardly ‘investigative’ – it happened in the public eye and it’s known how the horses are euthanized. What they’ve done is show the actual event for a purpose I don’t understand.
And really – did Wigmore Hall’s connections need that? Presumably they’re already upset at losing him.
For anyone who’s interested, Michael Bell has issued a statement. It’s on his website.
We saw this mare race several times at local courses. Very sad to read of her premature death.
And thanks to Sheikh Mohammed who bought him from Japan at 14 to live out his days at Dalham Hall Stud. It could have been a very different story.
Heart sank when I saw this name – the old horse has been around forever and this is just too sad.
RP reports that she has a fractured pelvis but they’re hopeful of her running again.
Broke down at Lingfield. Only 3 years old.
Thanks for responding Triptych – just a baby – too sad for words.
RP reports that he broke his shoulder at Cheltenham. They got him home but there were complications and he had to be put down.
He’d been off for about two years I think with tendon injuries -trainer has a tweet printed in the RP about him. Ironic that the winner of the race had been off a similar length of time.
