Very sad news.
Requiescat in pace John
Absolutely BM. A great day for Warren Place and delighted for Lady Cecil. That famous flag is raised once more!
There is no doubt that Noble Mission has improved this year and it was interesting to see how delighted Teddy was. I hope this result will encourage the Prince to keep sending them his good horses. So far they have done all they could and the horses have by and large run to form. May it long continue.
Totally agree Joni and dare I say Lady Cecil has brought NM on more than the Legend himself.
Think from a Juddmonte point of view only Retirement Plan has been a negative. Hopefully he’s out soon and back to winning ways.I guess the stable losing someone like Shane Fetherstonhaugh would be a blow. The reality is that quite a few owners took their horses away from the stable at the end of last season. Warren Place has 58 horses and Sir Michael Stoute has over 150. I would expect any talented rider would be looking to engineer a better chance of being on high class horses and sharing in higher win bonuses; it is normal human nature. He may well have been head-hunted, which is just what would be expected. With only half the number of horses at Warren Place as in recent years, many staff will have had to leave, and some others may well look for better opportunities. It is tough for the team’s leaders to lose good staff; it is tough for the team members to have fewer horses in the yard.
It is unlikely that anyone would think that the new leadership at Warren Place would have the same level of talent, skill and experience as Sir Henry. They must know that they have not just lost his abilities, but also his drawing power. So the current team will have to concentrate all the time on doing everything to the best of their ability. If they are moderately successful they will attract more owners and horses next year.
I do wonder if any of the owners who left might regret their decision. Without the great man’s guiding hand, so far this year the statistics are:
Runners: 39
Winners: 11
Placed: 15Win percentage: 28%
Win or Placed percentage: 69%There are indications that they may have retained a lot of the knowledge they learned from Sir Henry over the years. Will they have done enough by the end of the year to deserve a fuller stable next year? We shall see.
Very good 2 days got Lady C and her team Hopefully the Prince will maybe think of sending more nice horses her way
A very good post Sir , agree verbatim , its hard to expect Lady C , to have any skills as a trainer , but in fairness , both herself and the team assisting are doing a darn good job so far
well done them

I know Juddmonte have James Doyle as their retained jock now but has there been a fall out between Lady C and Tom Queally? I think he’s the only jockey she’s not put up this season!
Mighty Yar is listed as still being in training with Lady Cecil for 2014.
Mighty Yar along with Retirement Plan have early entries in the Yorkshire Cup
As Gingertipster says nice to see you back Joni
Hope your not deserting Lady C tho
Thanks Joni and MV
I notice on the Juddmonte Farms facebook page that Lady C has in the last week got more named Juddmonte 2 year olds. Would these be covered in the Horses In Training book as unnamed horses or is the 58 horses increasing?
Seeing the big grey colt Lake Alfred running a nice race yesterday got me thinking is The Might Yar still at Lady C’s?
Great post MV hopefully your spot on with your assessment
Thanks for that MV. I haven’t received my copy yet but am interested to hear the numbers are so low. Hopefully the quality will make up for the quantity.
It goes without saying that this is a huge year for Warren Place. With the first Frankel foals due to be assigned next year it is vital that they show they can continue in similar vein to when the master was alive. Joyeuse gives me hope that they will have a top class horse to go to war with and Retirement Plan also looked a horse with a big future until his season was curtailed early.
Fingers crossed for a good season.
Fingers and toes crossed here too joni
The number of horses being halved is a big worry though as you say hopefully it’s quality rather than quantity.
To be fair to Lady Cecil with the few runners she’s had during the winter she’s done reasonably well
Well I’m a long way behind the Ginge but I am belatedly following him in on
CDA
for the Champion. It has been bucketing it down all day here in West London and I can only see the ground being on the soft side next Saturday. As Ginge says, if that is the case, who else is going to run? Trading Leather won’t, Dec of War, won’t, Toronado, Sky Lantern, The Fugue won’t. Will they run Farrh on soft ground over 10f or would they rather go for the QEII? I know which one I’d choose. The only complication is they have DA already. Even so CDA looks a good thing and I’ll take the 2-1 even though I am kicking myself that I didn’t take the bigger prices earlier in the week.
Today I have had just the one small bet but I likes the way
Squire Osbaldeston
won his maiden and expect him to go well today.
£50 win Squire Osbaldeston – 3-1 – non runner 5.15 Goodwood
£500 win Cirrus Des Aigles – 2-1 – Champion Stakes
I see Squire Osbaldeston won at Kempton the other night for his new trainer
Lady C has had a decent strike rate from her small string of runners during the winter months though which hopefully is a sign of things to come
I know it’s early in the year but has anyone heard of any Lady C horses burning up the gallops at WP?
R.I.P lad
Stable had 3 winners at Newcastle today as well it’s a funny old game
Patience is a virtue, so they say. I just wish that Juddmonte would hurry up and announce something!

Just read Tiger Cliff and First Mohican have left Warren Place to join Alan King and wont be returning for next years flat season
No need to worry about those two. That was always the plan. I remember Henry Ponsonby being interviewed on TV in the Summer, and him saying then that those two would be going to Alan King. Also, in previous years, once one of his syndicate horses has moved to its National Hunt trainer it does not go back to its old flat trainer. If they fancy a short flat campaign the horse always stays with the NH trainer.
The big test for Lady Cecil will be the allocation of Prince Khaled Abdulla’s horses. Will the likes of Venue, Retirement Plan, Disclaimer and Hot Snap come back. Most telling of all will be the allocation of two year olds. Will there be the normal Warren Place allocation? Will Lady Cecil go to the “back of the the queue” for the Juddmonte horses. Or will there be none at all?
Read on the bastion of truth that is facebook that Venue has left Warren Place and Hot Snap and Morpheus are off to Bill Mott in the US
She has only had 3 two year old winners and there seems a lack of talent amongst the juveniles.
The stable website still talks of Sir Henry in the present tense and I am not sure she is doing enough to really promote herself. I know she hates the limelight but she is now the boss so she has to.
I hope this is a just an end of season blip but I worry that she will struggle. Next year will obviously be huge and it will be interesting to see what support she receives from Prince K.
Does anyone know what older horses are being kept in training at Warren Place? The likes of Noble Mission, Stipulate, Tiger Cliff, First Mohican. Also is the number of yearlings sent form Juddmonte up or down on previous years?
Just read Tiger Cliff and First Mohican have left Warren Place to join Alan King and wont be returning for next years flat season
One thing that might also help is getting another stable jockey therefore having a little bit of continuity. I know TQ had his critics but at least you knew who was riding the Cecil horses generally. Nowadays it’s unbelievable the number of jocks that are being used.
I wouldn’t bother with a stable jockey, use the best available.
If Tom Queally doesn’t want the job, what’s the quality of jockey likely to be, that will accept the job? Lots of owners won’t want a low quality jockey riding their horses even if he is stable jockey, if Ryan Moore, Frankie etc are sat in the weighing room.
Fair point that coupled with Jamie Doyle being the retained as the Juddmonte jockey it’s unlikely that the stable jockey is going to have many big race rides.
Just thought as Warren Place has seen huge changes this year continuity might help Lady C find her feet.
