Clear now but ended up quite wet this afternoon – we had hail at some point
. Wont be good for Tuesday but I wouldnt rule it out towards the end of the week – depends how it dries up – it is meant to get warmer. The concern would be the supposed rain that is due Monday night could be pretty soft on Tues.difficult to say how much we have had – a series of short sharp blustery showers today – windy and sunny inbetween. Not that cold but meant to be dry later / tonight / tomorrow morning with rain monday night.

update – started raining now – it will go into the ground i think as its steady. If you were stood outside you would get very wet (no I am not going to prove that)
getting heavier now – much more – will definatly go in as its beating on the window
i knew it would rain – we have had that sort of year
Another dry day up to now. Sunny AM and overcast PM with the wind picking up mid afternoon. That makes 4 dry days up to now. It is now very windy In afraid to say but will have helped dry it out.
It has just started spitting but hardly noticeable so far as the wind is very strong.
I cant tell you what the weather will be like on the day but I can report it as it is – as i went to gold cup day last year as many years previous – it was special.
We should all hope that its not windy however we all know it can rain a lot

another dry day with strong sunshine this morning – clouded over afternoon and a bit warmer. Must have dried out a bit as it has been cold at night before and much warmer now. There is rain forecast over the next few days and into next week but I dont know how much we will have so I will keep you up to date as good as I can. Very springlike today

so who is going to win
– and no one is allowed to pick imperial commander as I have a soft spot for him
as I said we have had some rain – but yesterday was dry (shower just missed the course I think as I live approx 3 miles west of the course) and today (thurs) was dry (both days sunnys and cold). It has been cold so dont know how much has dried out.
I would think its going to be on the soft side of good unless it warms up – with heavy rain now forcast for monday intead of sunday according to this http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/2174 its is very cold at the moment.
I can keep you updated if you like – just dont shoot the messenger thats all
I come in peace
Denman was all out winning last year – he was out on his feet and wouldnt have found anything if something came up. He put his effort in before and nothing was going to come past I think thats the point. Most winners have almost walked over the line in good to soft or worse – there is nothing wrong with that because its the test that it is. One concern is that he looked at his peak last year and nothing could live with him – we will find out what condition he is in next week i guess.
been raining all afternoon – quite heavy now

edit sorry i stand corrected – its hammering it down (honestly) we have had quite a lot now

its a funny race this year – paul said it all about denmans last race – he won last year and had a hard race – just because sam wasnt hard on him doesnt mean he didnt have a hard race. Thats what the gold cup does to horses – its the ultimate test. It will be the first year I dont go for a long time (company i work for went bust) but it has been dry and cold for a long time in cheltenham – i think we might have a wet one
For what its worth anyone looking at the history would see that there might be value elsewhere from the front 2 – madison and neptune are now contenders although im not sure whether neptune acts @ chelt. Dont forget nortons coin/cool ground/garrison savanah – we can learn a lot from history – a lesson most of us almost always forget. For all those that are going – it is not the forgone conclusion this year that you might think – thats what makes it the race it is
I will be watching on tv but not there in the flesh and backing the winner – a strange thing when you live there
two that stick im my mind in the 2 to 2 1/2 range – viking flagship and moscow flyer – viking for his toughness and moscow for his class
hes class .. remember watching him get up in last race @ chelt (i think his first hurdle at chelt) was fast ground that day and a 4 runner field last race but it sticks in my mind – ap gave him a great ride and its what nh is all about = horses like him
… yes in the flesh and i wont forget it in a hurry
NC was good today – he lead for a while on a track that doesnt suit him. seems more of a flat track soft ground horse to me with a bit of temprement – hes young and there will be plenty of races for us to watch him run well in
how good would he be if PN didnt train him ? – i have my doubts – seems more of a character of a horse.just watched the race again – pure class – made the hair on the back of my neck stand out after having seen it in the flesh. It was a demolition job – a jumping galloping staying chaser – seeing horses like that perform like that is why I like national hunt racing, isnt that why we all do ? … not interested in anything else

Havent seen any serious errors on the rerun – only one minor one so no real excuses in my opinion – infact Denman pulversied the opposition. If it had been sofer i think he would have won further. I didnt back him – had a fun bet instead and just enjoyed the race.
If you are not impressed by that they i suggest you visit specsavers. Neptune Collenges is a good young improving horse (look how easily he won his last race) and might be a threat if he liked cheltenham a bit more. Wasnt a tactical race on fast ground, no hard luck stories, no bad falls.
Denman is a tank and it was a privilage to see him today

just got back from the course – great performance by Denman – more like an anniliation. Wound it up going into the second circuit and got in close to a couple but got further and further away. Never at any point did/could Kauto be in a proper postion to challenge. I think the form is rock solid – 2nd last years winner, 3rd a vastly improving young horse, and 4th a Welsh National winner – decent form in anyone’s book.
dont underestimate the ability to jump and gallop your rivals into the ground – thats what he did. I thought he got a bit tired at the end but after that 2nd circuit he had every right to be

I wasnt convinced about Kauto before last years gold cup – but win he did and the performances since we havent seen any serious jumping errors. Denman is a monster of a horse but how good is he ?
… if they are both under pressure coming up the hill who would your money be on – both under serious pressure – then its down to guts. If they cut thier own throats and go too fast – getting too close to the odd fence could let in star or halcon/exotic (even star if he is good enough) if they are up to up it – the only alternatives. A slowly run tactitcal race would suit Kauto but will Denman’s jumping + stamina hold up. Kauto, as I see it, hasnt been put under pressure in his races because he is either a) too good or b) not been tested at the highest level. There have been many gold cup winners that havent delivered again in the gold cup – heavy wears the crown. The gold cup isnt contested but wannabe’s – most horses has some sort of chance.History tells the story – but tomorrow we will see – on softish going will Kauto cruise up and burn anything infront of him ?
Roll on tomorrow
