Pardon my cynacism but have we got a Jim Bolger/New Approach scenario here regarding BARBERS SHOP.

Was not expected to run and consequently was available at 169/1 on Betfair. Now trading at around 8’s. Looks progressive and potentially well handicapped with the Henderson team flying.

Also a hold up horse. With Ashley Brook, Yes Sir, Imperial Commander and Patman Du Charmil in the race, it could very well be set up for something running off the pace.

Stan is a big price at 20’s too. Ran a nice reappearance race over an inadequate trip at Ascot. Coleman takes a valuable 3 pounds off, has course and distance form and ended last season seemingly improving.

They are my two against the field.

I agree entirely with the Bolger comparison.
Thing is the conceited press boys like Henderson because he makes
them feel special.Bolger is not interested in them. There are no headlines now about the betting public being put away are there?Hypocrites

    Welcome the forum Bahram.

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones however, and your riposte to Barry contained two grammatical errors: "their" instead of "they’re", and a missing apostrophe in "that’s".

    Thanks for the welcome BennyB.
You lot are a right motley crew.A barrow boy turned bookie and a professor of English!!
    What next!
One piece of advice though BennyB.
Never ever stick up for a bookie. :)

back in the 50’s I was brought up in the game by an old fashioned bookmaker, ( stand anything it cant win).

his philosyphy, wait for the big meetings and play bigger cos mugs love to bet when its hardest to win.

he died recently, a very rich man.

Gamekeepers. They all think their clever cause ".I’ve got more money than
    you!"
They should all spend their millions learning how to spell and speak
before mouthing off how clever they are.
    Thats my PHILOSOPHY Barry!

Reets opinion on Ashley Brook not staying.
The connections felt he was a future Gold Cup horse before
injury struck.Check RP quotes if you want confirmation.
You may of course be right but if not what will you do with the rest of your life?!?

Verasi will go straight to the Hennessy. He was entereed for the Tidal Bay race at Carlisle but it would have been a long haul.
The trainer was annoyed about running him in The Sun Alliance but the quality he feels the horse has got the better of him.The track and ground were against him.Grasshopper you are right,he wants it nearly unraceable but weve seen that before at Newbury in winter and he will love 3m2f.You have a great price at 150 in a race that looks wide open.

Gary Moore is son of Charlie Moore who passed on the operation to his son at the address you quoted. This year he took over Czyers yard at Horsham in Sussex and keeps both going.
Has been spending a lot of money at the sales this year so winning the last two runnings of The Totesport Trophy has helped him.He is prolific on the AW with very poor Flat horses.Hitchens is easily his best flat horse, the rest are mostly middle of the road/low grade handicappers.
His sons both have difficulty communicating with the outside world and the trainer doesn’t tell you anything. Why should he?He keeps his owners informed I assume which is why his string is growing. He is capable and I believe his assistant is generally responsible for the placing of his and he for the fitness.

Cheltenham and National Hunt racing are the only reasons I stay in this country!
Cheltenham will as usual provide lots of clues for the future and I won’t miss it for that reason but I won’t be betting tomorrow.Too tough for me.

As Peru and I were singing from the same hymn sheet with Jack TG and he is a NR I thought I’d follow Peru in with an alternative.
The fav has a whole stack in his favour except a stupid AP Price.
But I just don’t trust him for some reason. He is Grade 1 winner over hurdles and fences in novice company. In opencompany I think he might wilt in the bigger boys playground.
He may win but not a chance I could take at the price.
I love a juicey price and IMO the over priced horse is Ashley Brook.
He is a 10yo,which concerns me but he has not raced that much for one of his age and everything else is positive.33/1 BF

Sorry for delay in response to Peruvian Chief’s question.
IMO the very fact that Jack The Giant ran third in the Arkle on ground that both the trainer & jockey said didn’t suit is one reason I feel he may be a Grade 1/2 class horse in open company.
That he could run so creditably with such an important factor against him indicated to me that given his ideal conditions he could be a tool.
Of course it is irrelevant now for this race but I think the Ryanair is his trainers goal. We’ll see.

IMO Jack The Giant is the one horse in The Mackeson who could progress into a winning Grade 1/2 performer in open company.
But decent ground is an absolute imperative for him to be seen at his best. You can’t make any concessions when tyring to back the winner of such a hotly contested handicap as the Mackeson.
If he runs and the ground is good I think he has a very solid chance at a price that in my little world represents great value.

Pulled up with a BBV come Sat afternoon!!

Does anybody have any idea if Jack The Giant is an intended runner?

Only time will tell who is right or wrong.Denman has a heart problem which is enough to keep him off the track until the new year at the earliest. If it was something and nothing why isn’t he in full work yet, no matter on the racecourse?
I hope my concerns are misplaced, but steeplechasing is a tough game and Denman wouldnt be the first to fall by the wayside due to ill health or injury.

    Hi
I’m new so forgive me if you’ve done this before.
Burrough Hill Lad won a Gold Cup then won a Hennessy before scrambling home in a King George that ended up a match.
He then suffered injury and was never the same again. He was a fantastic racehorse.
Bregawn won a Hennessy and then a Gold Cup.The following season he was never the same horse and ended up with a Timeform double squiggle.
Denman has won Henessy and GC and low and behold he has a heart problem. The horse is very unlikely to ever be the same horse we saw last season. The trainer has told us he has a problem but we don’t want to hear the truth so we are pretending the trainer has a magic wand.Even the trainer doesn’t want to believe it, but Denmans best is behind him.
