Still gutted I wasn’t standing at my yearly spot at the winning post at Newcastle watching Peddler’s Cross win it but still thought it was an interesting race.
Binocular, as ever, predictably unpredictable. However, I reckon Henderson’s going down the same route as last season and using the likes of this as a prep for the big day in March. He looked, approaching the 2nd last, as though he was all over Peddler’s Cross, but found nothing when push came to shove. Suppose the same can be said of Starluck as well.
Peddler’s Cross was very impressive in my opinion. He kept on pulling more and more out and reminds me of another gritty 2 mile hurdler who was probably suited by a bit further, Brave Inca, just always seeming to pull more out when needed and I reckon he’ll definetely be in the shake up come March.
Come March though I know where my money will be going!
Well done enough reading all the various form and comments and going for:
Diamond Harry
Taranis
Madison Du BerlaisPromises to be an absolute thriller!!
Hiya peeps!!
Good to see someone put a thread up for what promises to be a tremendous series!!
On paper I just cannot see Australia being able to take 20 wickets on the generally batsmen-friendly wickets Down-under. Unless Johnson has an unbelievable series I just can’t see Australia beating us!! Siddle and Hilfenhaus are too inconsistent, Bollinger hardly set the world alight in county cricket, and the addition of this Doherty kid as their spinner smacks desperation in my view. However, I feel it would be foolish to write the likes of Hussey off – though his form has been poor, class is permanent and he’s reknowned for his gritty determination, bit like Collingwood is for us.
For the 3 lions, I reckon we need Cook and Pietersen to have a big series. Both are on a bit of an iffy run at test level, though they’ve both had a couple of knocks in the warm ups. The fact that we bat down to 9 as well will definetely stand us in good stead when the top 4 fail to fire. Bell, Prior, Broad, Swann must be the best 6,7,8,9 in world test match cricket??
Am going for the following little wagers to have a financial interest as well as a sporting one!!
Top Eng Series Bat – Trott @ 4/1
Top Eng Series Bowl – Swann @ 11/10 £0.88 – LUCKY 15 &
Top Aus Series Bat – Ponting @ 7/2 £2 ACCA
Top Aus Series Bowl – Johnson @ 9/4England to win 2-1 – £6 @ 8/1
COME ON ENGLAND!!

Just had a look through the runners for Sunday – cannot have Manyriverstocross (unless it rains considerably, which, I’m told, it might!) and, on previous runs with a few of these, I’d be prepared to take Sanctuaire on.
Got to like the look of the top 2 – Hobbs in superb form and is v.confident in the build up that Menorah will run well. I know General Miller just beat him at Aintree but he was relatively fresh after falling at the Festival whereas Menorah obviously had a very hard race. Also after Get Me Out Of Here’s run a couple of weeks back, a definite pipe-opener, he’ll have race fitness on his side and looks as though he’s been primed for this.
Would also be a bit concerned at how much weight the Pipe runner gets at the bottom of the weights, taking into account her defeat of Nearby at the end of last season.
Just had a look at the entries/prices for the race and, though Binocular is very skinny, what do you take him on with??
Hurricane Fly surely not going to run, Peddlers Cross not really a two-miler after his wins at Cheltenham/Aintree last season imo and the new kids on the block, the likes of Menorah and Nearby need to be winning the Greatwood off their respective marks to be rated anywhere near Binocular.
Bearing in mind Noel Meade’s record in the race, I like the look of Donnas Palm at the prices!!
Yeah, and he had a steering job on Mad Moose in the last at Perth yesterday and managed to lose it to a more canny, experienced jockey. Think he’s totally overhyped just because he’s Nigel’s son and he only ever wins when riding for his father as he gets no decent rides from elsewhere! There’s far better conditionals out there, David Bass, Richie McLernon and Ryan Mania to name but a few…
Pretty impressive, apart from hitting the first fence!! Nice little earner! - AuthorPosts
