Zenyatta schooling for the Apple Blossom and dancing;
April 9, 2010 at 23:37 #289090Won easily, as she pleased. Came from way off the pace, drew off in the stretch.
April 10, 2010 at 00:17 #289100Toyed with them and won at a canter, fantastic stuff.

Any chance of getting her up the duff with Sea The Stars?
Thanks

Another egg and spoon race. I think she’d raise more of a sweat in her afternoon walking exercise.
April 12, 2010 at 00:28 #289771Zenyatta takes a bow right on cue, when introduced before the Apple Blossom;

WARNING – if you turned up the volume because the first video was a bit quiet, the next two have some very loud, enthusiastic female fans of Queen Z. Some of the comments are pretty funny.
Dances her way to the starting gate;

Jogs up the track for an encore, accepts her flowers, then back to the barn and the Zenyatta show is over until next time. If you get a chance to see big Z’s show in person, take it. The race itself is just part of the performance.

June 9, 2010 at 22:53 #299741Zenyatta bids for her 17th consecutive victory in Sunday’s Vanity Handicap, where she has been assigned top-weight of 129lb. Another victory would surpass the 16-race winning streak compiled by, among others, those twin greats Cigar and Triple Crown winner Citation.
Rachel Alexandra will make her third start of the season when she carries top weight in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Found this on YouTube. Towards the end of the video is a photo of Zenyatta as a foal – I feel sorry for her dam!
Speaking of Vertigineaux, I look forward to seeing her Henrythenavigator filly on the track in a few years time.
June 10, 2010 at 02:32 #299759I really think that the Dubai World Cup would have been hers for the asking. But connections decided not to show up. Now they go with another ho hum race.
I don’t think we’ll get to the bottom of this mare to see what she has in the tank.
Perhaps she is not quite what she was last year. Her last race was very slow. She may be in for a shocking upset this weekend- even with a pacemaker added for her (perhaps this pacemaker is in because of the Blind Luck race- the Oaks winner had no pace to run to and lost her first race last weekend.)
Anyway, she’s never needed a pacemaker before. So, along with other things, I think this race is a coming up a bit strange.
June 12, 2010 at 22:04 #300235Nice to see Rachel back to winning ways tonight. Scooting home by 10 1/2 lengths.

Zenyatta is due to compete at 12.35 BST (monday morning) and the NTRA website are showing the race live. You will need to sign-up, which is free, and the webcast starts at 12.15 BST.
Win, or lose, it’s always a treat to watch her race. Let’s hope she bags a third Vanity and the potential clash with Rachel is back on track.
June 13, 2010 at 23:58 #300403Cigar couldn’t do it. Citation couldn’t do it.
Zenyatta just made it seventeen in a row with a third consecutive win in the Vanity.
Mike Smith had her way out the back before making smooth progress at the halfway stage. She was a couple of lengths down turning in, about six wide, and looked beat two furlongs out before getting up on the line to win by a neck.
Talk about knowing where the line is. The ultimate Drama Queen.

Now watching her after the race. Still playing with the bit, her tail swishing, ears pricked and strutting.
Amazing.
June 14, 2010 at 11:17 #300464Thanks for the link; glad I didn’t get to see it live, though…phew….
July 21, 2010 at 08:52 #307687It looks like Zenyatta’s next race might be the Clement L. Hirsch Sat. Aug 7 at Del Mar, though there has been no formal announcement. Zenyatta doesn’t like the Del Mar surface and a lot depends on whether or not the new track superintendent can fix the surface issues, as a number of horses broke down last year at Del Mar. I hope Zenyatta doesn’t run at Del Mar as I’d rather see Zenyatta at Saratoga or at least over more distance than 8.5f. While we’re waiting for the announcement of her next race, I thought you might enjoy these YouTube interview videos of Mike Smith;
July 21, 2010 at 09:10 #307689But wait, there’s more;

There’s a part 4 as well. The first part is mostly about other horses Mike is riding on that day but there are some good fan questions after that.
July 21, 2010 at 19:20 #307804Apologies if this has already been posted but here is a video of Zen’s former stable companion Life Is Sweet:

And and even more heart warmingly tear jerkingly (in a nice way) vid of the great Zen herself having her bottle of Guinness.

I think it is fair to say that Zenyatta’s popularity stateside is probably something akin to the way Arkle was turned into a national pet here in the 60’s?
This is what racing really is all about imo.
