Zigato??
Arazi
June 14, 2011 at 16:58 #360740Well, at least each-way punters got most of their money back. Listening to Gosden beforehand it sounds as if trainer and jockey messed up the tactics. The form was good enough as the horse he beat last time finished second. No doubt if he gets a winner later in the week someone will be falling over themselves to say what a great ride.
June 14, 2011 at 17:21 #360746I think that the tactics were awry today. That said I think that he lay a bit too far out of his ground, but that this was magnified by the fact that the horse was simply outpaced around half a mile out
June 14, 2011 at 18:03 #360756A negative ride but as Gosden predicted prior to the race and ridden as though he would struggle to get the trip.
Just how many races has Buick ridden over the trip though, he is quite experienced now but maybe he lacked a bit of experience over that sort of distance to judge it well enough riding from the back.June 14, 2011 at 18:57 #360774He as been given a fantastic opportunity to ride for Gosden, However he cannot make misjudgemnets like that today if he wants to retain his job.
I cannot see the owners or the trianer defending such a poor ride as that today if he continues like that.
Bottom line, it was a poor ride.June 14, 2011 at 19:10 #360777Pocket talk from me, however no idea what he was doing on that horse, or what his logic was. Would love for him to share his thoughts.
June 15, 2011 at 05:52 #360841Very strange to read comments criticizing Zigato’s tactics yesterday, when he won with the exact same tactics a month ago.
A much stronger pace, over an extra half mile makes this suspect stayer much less effective, as hinted at by the trainer pre-race.
Fame And Glory will go the same way.
June 16, 2011 at 11:40 #360923im sure i read somewhere that lester piggott said frankie dettori was the best current jockey riding today.
disagree, but i would put him in my top 5.
June 16, 2011 at 12:23 #360937He was useless again yesterday….can’t be long now before Owners start to get fed up.
June 16, 2011 at 23:56 #361101He’s not having the best time of it at the moment. So much so, that he’s been on my ignore list for some time now (I’m sure he’s gutted). Him and Ted Durcan. I’m sure things will change soon for William – I wouldn’t bank on it for Ted.

The strange thing is not the criticism but that anyone should think there was actually a case for the defence.
The previous Ascot race was not so competitive with a small field. It was always going to be difficult to replicate those tactics again. The horse clearly stayed the longer trip and Buick and Gosden messed up.
Spencer rode a much more sensible race and we all know the result.
June 17, 2011 at 13:47 #361193It will be interesting to see how he rides Nathaniel today. If he holds this lad up the back and comes to late he is gone at the game. I going for this new trainer who has impressed me Roger Varian and would be only right for him to get his first Royal Ascot Winner.

Where are Williams nockers now? great ride on Nathanial.
If he’s got the horse underneath him he wins, simple – add a Group 2 win to his ever growing record!
June 17, 2011 at 15:15 #361205I haven’t knocked him on this but he seemed to have ‘the horse underneath him’ when riding Zigato the other day and I’d say he’d admit himself that it wasn’t a great ride.
June 17, 2011 at 15:28 #361207Fabulous ride on Beachfire there in fairness.

Class ride on Beachfire, not the most straight forward horse.
Where you BUICK BASHERS at now! aye.
June 17, 2011 at 15:31 #361209He’s a good jockey, and you can’t keep ’em down for long!
