January 22, 2011 at 08:14 #337156This will be some SJ related question surely?
January 22, 2011 at 09:12 #337164If I was taking a flyer at the race I’d say the Kiplingcotes Derby, but no idea of the horse.

He won the Hamburg Jumping Derby in 1970 at the age of 20.
January 22, 2011 at 09:25 #337167I think he means Erhaab. Ho ho.
January 22, 2011 at 10:16 #337175You’re right Venusian, I should have phrased the question differently
Of course rob has the correct answer. What a horse, even won a puissance, only 14.2hh and lived till he was 36.January 22, 2011 at 19:30 #337269You’re right Venusian, I should have phrased the question differently
Of course rob has the correct answer. What a horse, even won a puissance, only 14.2hh and lived till he was 36.Yes and won the Ladies World championship and the Hickstead Derby and an Olympic Medal (bronze I think) over one of the toughest ever Olympic courses at altitude in Mexico City whilst suffering from a diseased molar. Tough as teak. His rider Marion Coakes married David Mould that fine jockey who rode so many winners for the Queen Mother.
January 23, 2011 at 09:07 #337322I’ve often wondered about the difference in weight carried by horses when show jumping or eventing, given that you have small ladies and [sometimes] rather portly gentlemen competing in the same discipline. I understand that our friend Moorlands Totilas is causing a lot of controversy at the moment, having being sold and gone to stud, but with a possibility that he will still compete at the Olympics….

He’s changed hands for an incredible amount of money and changed rider in Paul Schokemohle’s powerful German yard. That is what’s causing the controversy. Edward Gal clicked with him, the German rider might not and his semen is going to be sold via the AI route.
Watch this space on the run up to the Olympics. It will be interesting see what happens to him at the European Championships this year.
January 24, 2011 at 00:24 #337454Stroller won individual silver at the Olympics in 1968, the only pony to have achieved such a feat. Had it not been for the abcess on his tooth, it would surely have been gold.
I think David and Marion Mould still live in Spain where their son Jack is a footballer. John Whitaker won the Hickstead Derby on a horse called Gammon who was 21, the oldest to date. His brother Michael was the youngest winner at 20 on a horse called Owen Gregory who was 18. - AuthorPosts
