A straw poll to see which channel currently has your vote as the best.
Please say which channels has the best coverage of horse racing it can be presentation, knowledge of presenters, entertainment whatever just the channel you would prefer to watch racing on if they had the rights all courses.
Please vote as though they all had the best courses and the worst not just what they currently show.
July 18, 2007 at 18:08 #108428RUK, without doubt.
No annoying adverts gives them more time to actually focus on the racing.
Full colour cards before each race – what more can you ask for?July 18, 2007 at 18:09 #108430But they dont have preview programees like ATR and they dont talk other courses at least ATR look at whats happening at the other meetings and get early morning views
July 18, 2007 at 18:56 #108435All that is only someone elses opinion though.
At least with RUK you have the info to make your own opinion, if you are capable.
Perhaps I am bitter because my brother nicks the RP and takes it racing!July 18, 2007 at 19:19 #108440Also with RUK every meeting is pretty much the same as another. The SPECIAL meetings don’t seem special on RUK.
That said their basic coverage of racing is excellent.
ATR too many adds and Matt Chapman completely wreck it.
BBC and C4 aren’t too bad when they concentrate properly on the racing instead of annoying peripheral stuff for example I thought the Beebs coverage of the Aintree National meeting was excellent.
July 18, 2007 at 19:25 #108441ATR by rules of the advertising people have to have four three minute breaks an hour during racing same as VH1 also are governed by strict times on adverts thats why theres are so much longer than the Emap music stations so in that respect ATR have no choice
July 18, 2007 at 20:08 #108444Unfortunately I had to abstain, sadly in my view racing fans don’t get the coverage they deserve.
July 18, 2007 at 20:18 #108447I contemplated adding a non of the above do you think I should add one?

Unfair to the lynx-eyed RUK: no contest
As for the point made about the lack of morning previews and chat, well IMO that’s a blessing.
A tenner a month for hours and hours of slick minimalism…
…we’ve never had it so good
July 18, 2007 at 20:59 #108454It’s a tough call for me, this. ATR features more of my sort of courses, particularly during the summer jumping season.
However, RUK does have the triple whammy of Bangor, Cartmel and Market Rasen; the replays of the day’s meetings at more conducive times of day for me (i.e. very late night) are a godsend; and of course it has resurrected tv coverage of point-to-point meetings (one small suggestion next year, though, chaps: fit in a little bit more coverage of races – if enough videos can be sourced – and a little less buying of fudge, hot toddies, and other faffing about, and the show will be pretty much faultless).
On balance, therefore, RUK for me by the thickness of my fingernail.

No, it’s fine steve, you will still get a good idea what people think and it looks like RUK is the fav. For me they don’t show enough of the horses in the paddock and going to post, they have too many replays between races and too many sound effects as they all do. Another factor is the strength of their signal which appears to be the weakest and the first to go off in bad weather not to mention the big time delay on their pictures and too many close ups of the leaders in the finish.
Despite the lower quality racing it would have been ATR for me if they didn’t have the massive time delay on the pictures.
July 18, 2007 at 21:13 #108460RUK by a country mile.
Positives off the top of my head; No adverts, so they won’t come back from the break as the stalls are just opening, as has been happening lately on ATR .
Better presenters, Nick Luck, James Willoughby, Lydia Hislop, and many more.NO Matt Tangoman squeeling into the mic. No Thommo, unless he is commentating.
Better guests, Steve Mellish, Dave Nevison.
Very little bull and pizzaz, informative with out being patronising or dumbing down. Less "tabloid", so to speak, than the rivals.
They don’t do preview shows but do we really need/want another ‘Get On’, granted market movers and interviews can be informative.
They do on occassion show other great items, like the breeze up sales, showing the corresponding breeze with each lot. There was another item last week on the owner breeders of Sakhee’s secret that was quite good.July 18, 2007 at 22:09 #108469The best channel has been missed from the list ATR Active!!! The service provided behind the red button is exactly what I want from a racing channel. Pictures of horses parading and going to post, the race with commentary.
No hosts, guests, pundits, experts, nonexperts, bookmakers reps, jockeys, trainers, tips or adverts. Just the horses and the racing.

A couple moe preview programmes would be good….but overall its an excellent service

Well youve rattled my cage there because Im on virgin media i dont have the red button it angers me greatly. ATR wont answer my emails when I ask why I know they are part owned by Sky but I asked when it was Telewest and still you get no response. I get sick and tired of being told press the red button and youre watching channel 415, IM NOT WATCHING SKY 415 IM WATCHING VIRGIN 534 we are just as much loyal viewers as Sky ones and ATR we would appreciate some recognition that we help to keep your viweing figures up.
July 19, 2007 at 08:46 #108490There’s a very good reason why RUK don’t do regular morning previews – they don’t have a studio from which to broadcast them.
That’s why all their coverage is hosted from the course and why you never see any pictures of the presenter doing the voiceover, betting shows, results etc.

July 19, 2007 at 08:53 #108492I don’t think we NEED ‘booth’ pictures but it would be nice to have an email address similar to the one ATR has.
As far as I know if you email RUK it goes through Setanta, at least that used to be the case.
