Abducted by aliens?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 25, 2013 at 21:02 #452358Race before The Dewhurst nowadays, ran in the middle of October Ian.
September 25, 2013 at 21:26 #452360The 2yo Group 1’s in England are a total mess since Champions Day was mved to Ascot, clashes all over the shop.
Its a shambles, at least we’ve got another fancy day at Ascot though eh?
September 25, 2013 at 22:13 #452370I’m all in favour of change….if it’s for the better.
But am I alone in thinking the Royal Lodge and Fillies Mile had more character and served a better function as trials for middle distance 3yo events the following season when run round a bend at Ascot?
Ditto the Racing Post Trophy when run on Doncaster’s round mile.
As for Middle Park and Dewhurst on the same card….great! Not.
I know, let’s run the 2,000 Guineas and The Derby on the same card too.
PLEASE!

Wish the latter two were not at Newmarket. However, the Festival Of British Racing is such a brilliant day’s racing – suppose it’s the price worth paying. Newmarket supposedly had to be compensated for the Champion Stakes by moving the two two year old races from Ascot to Newmarket.
I know there might be one or two two year olds capable of running in both 6f and mile races, but (if said races are at Newmarket) would it be good to have a Two Year Old Championship Day?
Nursery, Zetland, Middle Park, Fillies Mile, Cheveley Park, Dewhurst?
On second thoughts, Nah!
Value Is EverythingSeptember 26, 2013 at 16:02 #452402"The Festival of British Racing" day at Ascot in inferior to the Old Newmarket "Champions Day" at HQ in my opinion. Challenge Stakes, Dewhurst Stakes, Champion Stakes, Darley Stakes, Rockfel Stakes and The Cesarewitch. What in gods name was wrong with that?
Making a shambles of the 2yo Pattern Programme to facilitate the "Re-brand" is scandalous – but I suppose Money & Ascot talks.

Challenge, Darley and Rockfel do not usually produce performances of Group 1 standard PC. Standard of winners in the last/next few years will ensure every race on FOBR day will be a Group 1.

What (imo) PC – more than anything else makes "a shambles" of the European Pattern – is so few Irish Group 1’s. Seems to me there are more Irish Group 1 standard horses these days than British or French, yet how many Group 1’s are there in Ireland? Though this year’s Matron won’t help.

Every race? I seriously doubt it. In fact I’m certain it won’t happen.
September 26, 2013 at 20:09 #452429Obviously apart from the apprentice race PC.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 26, 2013 at 21:24 #452438Kudos to me, I have out-debated Garfield himself on a technicality! As Sammy Jackson himself may say, "I’m Da Man!".
Joking apart, the sheer variety and class of HQ Champions Day was far superior to the Ascot day, even ignoring the annoying re-shuffling of the Pattern system (especially 2yo) because of it. (In my opinion).
September 27, 2013 at 00:13 #452448I think the plan is to move one or two of the big juvenile races to Ascot after a suitable period when feelings are cooler, perhaps another couple of years.
Ascot would like the Dewhurst in particular but the Middle Park would be less controversial or return of the Royal Lodge which looks to have had an uncertain start at Newmarket, looking at the numbers.
Champions day is certainly diminished without a big 2yo race(s).
Dewhurst as the premier 2000 Guineas trial has to stay at HQ though, surely?
Royal Lodge and Fillies mile returning to Ascot probably makes most sense once everyone is used to Ascot’s predominance as the flagship autumn meeting. - AuthorPosts
