I haven’t read every line (although I’ve tried) of the whip threads, but I don’t think this angle has been discussed:
What happens to the 7 per cent (I believe) of the prize fund that the offending jockey loses?
One assumes it remains with the owner, and there are no rules to stop him handing it back to the jockey himself, are there?
For example one assumes poor Christophe will be reimbursed his £40,000 for this afternoon’s misfortune.
If the BHA were to snaffle the cash and pay it, and the jockey’s riding fee, to a charity for retired racehorses, would the jockeys feel as aggrieved as they do now?
It must be galling to watch your hard-earned disappear into an unspecified black hole; isn’t that part of the problem?
