Une Artiste in the juvenile handicap at the festival. I was on a winning streak, so had a good bet pre-racing, was going EW when a friend jibed me for not being brave enough, so I bet to win. My friend also suggested I take a price (50-1), the eventual SP being 33-1.
But I have more stories about losing….

My bet with the biggest return was the £1 of pocket money placed on Little Polveir in the 1989 Grand National. I’d already had the first sparks of an interest in racing thanks to previous Nationals, but this was the one that sealed the deal and transformed it into a lifelong passion.

Some great stories here and some real life changing winners are great to hear about!!

Never won anything that serious, but my biggest priced winner was £6 on Billesden Brook at around 160/1 in the 1000 Guinneas on the exchange, just thought the way she’d won at Goodwood the year prior was very impressive and showed she really enjoyed winning races so felt she was overpriced.

Biggest monetary win was £1400 last year on Vauban in the Triumph, had £100 at 14/1 on the win before he made his Irish debut. Could have been a lot more too as I had him in a £15 e/w double with Allegri De Vassy 20/1 for the mares novice hurdle but she got injured just before last years festival!
