For me it must be the wheel or the mobile phone.
But.
When I go to the toilet, I think it must be that. The toilet is such a clever piece of technology, and what happens after you flush is even cleverer!:o
Forget i Pods and computers.
For my vote. It has to be the Krapper………..

September 20, 2006 at 20:23 #103393Why wood?
September 21, 2006 at 03:13 #103394I am inclined to agree with a Kiowa shamen I once talked to .
Their answer to this very question was highly illuminating and given very quickly and matter of fact.
"Tobacco and fur"
When I asked why, the answer came:
"because these are the riches that the spirits have given to our people, and we thought they were for us to make wealth, which we did for many thousands of years.
Now I know the real reason we were given them is much more profound, so to me far more valuable. You can identify evil spirits through them very clearly.
They are repulsed violently by both".
Both indeed do have a powerful ritual and symbolic significance in many native cultures in warding off evil. Fur adorns dream catchers and warbonnets, and tobacco and sweetgrass smoke is thought poison to evil spirits. The forces of modern synthetic wasteful polluting high tec civilisation do appear pitted against both entirely natural things, and hatefully so. I am inclined to agree.
I would add to that the bridle, which enabled all the greatest advances in civilisation, and the destruction of them when they got too cocky.
And then the stirrup. Which stopped the saxons controlling us for a few hundred years anyway. They didn’t have them and William the Conqueror did. Thankfully we have some inspolied countryside because of that.
