Oh my god what have they done to the Racing Post site, I haven’t been on there for a while yet looking at their ‘new’ site just now it looks dreadful. First they change the Sporting Life site then this one, are these supposed to be improvements and encourage more people to view these sites as surely they are doing the opposite?
March 10, 2017 at 08:58 #1290790To me, one of the major errors on the new beta Racing Post website is the “My Ratings” tool with reference to the lbs per length box.
If you look at yesterday’s results from Wincanton, notably the 2nd race the 1m7½f hurdle, on the beta website the lbs per length figure for the race distance is 1.25 and on the old website it is 1.0, that’s a 25lb difference.
For the record I use 0.95 lbs per length, which I calculated from the standard time.
You might be thinking who’s gives a damn, and I would say to you, do you work at the Racing Post?
I did point this out to the Racing Post, but they do not have anybody who understands, no change there.
Mike.
March 10, 2017 at 16:47 #1290858One’s response to appearance is inevitably subjective and to my mind the new site is visually less attractive than the old one. But the coding that generates it is considerably more sophisticated and no doubt allows the Post to do more as a consequence, some of which is already evident. Whether one finds those additions (such as the small and to my mind pointless photos to the left of the course names on the card and results pages, or having distances beaten both in relation to the horse who finished immediately in front and in relation to the winner) useful is again very much a personal matter. On balance, for me, in terms of functionality the new site is a minor improvement on the previous site.
March 27, 2017 at 09:36 #1294274Just done a ‘Malwarebytes’ scan and it’s sent me back to the Beta racing post on my link ………………I can’t find my way back to the old site !

I was getting a pop up yesterday which stated that today was the day the new site became permanent.
I would imagine that it’s bye-bye for the old site now.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 27, 2017 at 10:50 #1294279thanks Steve
oh dear…………. I’ll give it a fair go then and see if I can get comfortable with it
It just all seems too damn ‘busy’ , too much going on !
April 2, 2017 at 12:29 #1295028I agree Slowly Away. Too much stuff and a lot as videos as well which I don’t like. Soon I’ll only be visiting the site to find out what meetings are on, the rest I’ll just ignore.
April 2, 2017 at 17:20 #1295064I hate it I always like to see the breeding of a horse, especially the two year olds, and now it doesn’t seem to show up anywhere.
However, if you log in to Racing Post Bloodstock you can still get something akin to the old site and all the info on sires and dams.
I just think RP are trying to get site users to buy into their dreadful Members Club and pay for information you can get free on ATR..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 12, 2017 at 16:23 #1296537I’m still coming to terms with the damage the RP ‘powers that be’ have caused to the previously comprehensive yet quick to navigate site.
For me this is the nub of the problem :
So I want to check out a trainers strike rate or profit and loss with a jockey. On the old site from the horses form page it would take 3 clicks.
1. Click on Trainers name
2. Click on Statistics in trainer info box
3. Click on Jockey in drop down menu
4. You would then get a breakdown of the jockeys who had ridden for the trainer over the last 5 years as default and in descending order by number of winners by default too.To get to the same page in the new site it takes 10 clicks – MORE THAN THREE TIMES AS MANY !!!
1. Click on Trainers name
2. Click on Stats
3. Click on Stats (again!) arrow
4. Click on Filter
5. Click on Display By
6. Click on Jockey
7. Click on Time Period (the default is now current season so useless early season)
8. Click on Last 5 years
9. Click on Apply
10. Click on Wins (default is alphabetical rather than by wins/runs)So the RP thinks that over twice the number of actions/clicks taking twice the time TO GET TO EXACTLY THE SAME INFORMATION is an improvement ?
This pretty new site might please the more occasional punter and look good on mobiles or tablets but us more serious and in depth punters have been left high and dry …April 14, 2017 at 08:41 #1296673<p abp=”108″>I hate it I always like to see the breeding of a horse, especially the two year olds, and now it doesn’t seem to show up anywhere.

I’ve never used RP until very recently, I’ve used Sporting Life. I tried RP and found it little or no better than the new SL. The new SL is a regression not an improvement and from what I’ve seen on here, RP is at about the same level. But I suppose the less useful either of them are, the more the bookies will benefit.
April 14, 2017 at 11:23 #1296689I hate it. I once had a paying account with RP, but had to mail back and forth because cancelling is not an option (was?). At the old price I would have paid if I had been able to control my membership payments. Now the site is un attractive, even if paying for it, you´ll be hit by bloody ads everywhere you looked. Having to click numerous times to get the info that was handed on the card a few years ago. The Breeding is kept as a secret.
Best Wishes
