The change of ownership of Southport FC is now 99.9% a done deal. Two Liverpool property developers have bought the club from the bogus, corrupt “charity” which was the majority shareholder. A few conditions need to be met before the National League and FA ratify the takeover but I am told it ought to be a formality.
Unfortunately it sounds like the “charity” and its two main owners (both now declared bankrupt) have left the club’s finances in an almighty mess. The FA is not pleased and it sounds like the club has been fortunate to escape a formal reprimand.
25/26 might be a tough season but at least the new owners have proven business acumen and seem to have made a good start. Most of the club’s best players have signed up for next season, so there are grounds for optimism.
June 8, 2025 at 20:35 #1732601The Banbury United manager asked for permission to speak to Kettering, I hope he got the job as the Banbury board fired him.
Brackley have been updating contracts for next season, I suspect a mix of full and part timers.
Kevin Nolan, is signing a mixed bag of youth players for the Cobblers, one from West Ham might be useful.
Great news for Southport, I do have a soft spot for ex league teams, I welcome the return of Bradford Park Avenue, although it’ll be a long wait.
June 29, 2025 at 01:40 #1735022July 5th see’s the big county match Brackley at home to Northampton. Just a pre season warm up giving both teams a chance to showcase their new signings.
Unfortunately, the normal 30 minute drive down the A43 for the cobblers may well take upto 2 hours. Obviously the fixture planers forgot the British GP is on over the weekend and there will be a long detour. DOH daft
June 29, 2025 at 19:56 #1735159A shock to learn that Widnes FC have folded. They won their league last season and were due to start in the Northern Premier League. I believe it is because the expected move to a new stadium has fallen through, with the club blaming the local council.
I wonder how many of these non league clubs are on the edge financially.
