Am now back home on a faster link – still excruciatingly slow in IE but much better, and acceptable, in Firefox.
Just a shame I am literally being forced to use a separate browser if I want to access this site.
BTW I like the spellchecker in this new version.
Would also add it is impossible to change account profile in IE as response boxes are too small – again works OK in Firefox.
October 1, 2009 at 14:27 #251046It’s not as slow as when I first logged on here after the change over but it’s still a lot slower than all the other sites I go on and even facebook is fast compared to this site
Somebody mentions using firefox instead of IE but my friend has it and it is not user friendly on some web sites so if I switched then I may go on this site faster but have problems elsewhere – can’t win.
I agree that all the subjects such as hot forum topics, recent forum topics and most active members are a waste especialy the latter.
PS – It’s taken me 15 mins to log on and post this message and I do not have this time to spare each day.
I should try Firefox, you can remove the programme if you don’t like it. It is far superior to Explorer and has many "Add-ons".
I have never had any problems with using accessing sites with Firefox
October 1, 2009 at 14:42 #251049Could you also distinguish "stickies" at the top of the page from other threads. A bit confusing as to what’s new when you first log in.
October 1, 2009 at 14:50 #251050The adverts are gone and the forum is back up runing at the right pace….good stuff.
Get rid of the Hot/Recent topics as well..
October 1, 2009 at 14:53 #251052I’m for ditching the Hot Forum Topics/Recent Forum Topics as well. I know they are fashionable on other sites but don’t think they add anything to our community.
Also can Cheltenham 2009 be changed to Cheltenham Festival so it looks forward rather than backwards? I’d actually rather just have Cheltenham races in the Big Races section but know that Grasshopper/Graysons would probably faint!
October 1, 2009 at 15:07 #251054Can’t believe some of the complaints about loading speed. Every page loads for me within a second, using Firefox.

There’s an add-on which turns the page into IE if it’s not working in Firefox.
October 1, 2009 at 15:24 #251056No adverts and the site is as fast as it has been ever!
Thanks for the explaination Corm, I can see where you are coming from and you should be looking to build the place up rather than just let it drift along.
I reckon you should be looking at the bigger forums (if you aren’t already) and copy what they do rather than trying to find your own way through it.
October 1, 2009 at 15:36 #251059Speed improved since I last logged on. Nice one.
I’m all for the Hot/Recent Forum Topics. A great addition.
October 1, 2009 at 15:39 #251061Getting used to the site. Had to get a new password sent, but, alas, when I tried to change my password it wouldn’t work.

That is all well and good – however the site should work on all platforms – why should users be forced to choose a particular browser.
Also as IE is by far the most popular browser the site should be optimised for that as a priority.
October 1, 2009 at 15:52 #251064Hi guys, just checking to see how you’re finding the speed of the site today. We’ve made some changes this morning which seem to have made a big difference. We’ve been testing without and without ads as well and although at first we thought they were the issue it turned out they weren’t the root of the problem so we will be slowly bringing them back in while checking the effect on the speed of the site.
Please let us know how you’re finding the speed of the site now so we can work if what we’ve done has done the trick (or at least made an improvement).

cheltboy can you pm me about this so I can try and help you out

Paul, some of the changes we’ve made this morning are linked to the site’s performance in some versions of IE so hopefully you’ll notice the difference. Please report anymore you’re having though
October 1, 2009 at 15:54 #251065I’ve just used the recent topics bit down the righthand side for the first time.
If people are keeping up with a thread and want to see the latest contribution to it , is it possible to be directly taken to the last page of that thread instead of the first?
I suppose the same applies to the Hot Topics.
that’s interesting feedback Gerald and glad to hear you’ve used them for the first time. we’ll definitely consider making a change like this

this is a top priority task for us once we’ve fixed the speed issues Cavelino. I know it’s a bit annoying at the moment. Please bear with us and we’ll get onto that as soon as we can

Consider it education. I mean there is simply no reason to have IE. There are 3 far better browsers.
October 1, 2009 at 16:15 #251071Many thanks to
Matron
and
Zarkava
for their advices about using Firefox and if I get problems again then I may try it.
However this site is now running to speed for my PC as I type this message ( same speed as the old forum was ).
I still think the ‘ most active members ‘ part is not needed ( does anybody care ? ) but if it is to be included then maybe the stats for the last 6 months should be used instead of from outset as it looks a bit daft with guys like JIM JTS inlcluded as he rarely posts on here anymore.
October 1, 2009 at 16:43 #251079‘Dictatorial mannerisms!’
Anyway – all comments under review and will respond to each and every one.
Agree re- active members – we’re looking to try to change that to last 30 days or soemthing.
Making progress!
October 1, 2009 at 17:10 #251082James – using IE7 and it is much, much better now.
Thanks – I know it is not easy doing such a major change.
Well done guys
