Well I think the old one was getting a bit dated looking and you have done a great job David. Congratultions!!!

Of course it will have a few glitches but name me a new site that doesn’t. I’ve no probelems with the ads because if they weren’t there none of us would be here

I’m amazed at someone saying it’s running slow as I find it a bit faster than normal during the short time I’ve beeen posting and I’m hardly next door.

It all looks great. It’ll just take a while for an old man like me to find his feet again.

    – Drop the account options in to the navigation bar
    – Include a brief introduction to TRF in the right-hand column
    – Include a ‘join now’ option in the right-hand column
    – Include quicklinks to feature articles in the right-hand column
    – Intersperse the right-hand column with adverts as required
    – Remove ‘hot forum topics’ etc from the right-hand column altogether
    – Remove the homepage altogether

There’s also an issue with the ‘Topic review’ feature whilst posting.

A good start, but there’s plenty more that needs to be done for me.

This is useful feedback – thanks Equitrack. The articles link is something we’ve already discussed doing and is high on the list.

You should now notice the topic review issue is fixed.

Thanks again for your feedback its very useful

I mentioned the unnecessary prevalence of "Topics" sections during the beta-version feedback, and bugger all appears to have been done about them, so you’ll forgive me for hesitating when I read things like "useful feedback". Perhaps we are adopting the BHA approach to such things?

Site and pages are very slow to load, and the colour scheme is still far too ‘Jambo’ for my liking, but otherwise it seems ok.

Good to see my old pal Jim JTS drop in to rubbish the new place. Some people fear change.

    thanks for the feedback grasshopper.

although it may not seem like it, we have actually made the size and colour of the boxes in the RHS column less prominent following your feedback.

we decided to keep them however because they are very useful for people who arrive on the site having come in from a search engine so might not arrive on the forum homepage or the main homepage. our site analytics suggest that users don’t all navigate the site in the same way and these sections are intended to signpost potential content of interest.

their content is likely to be continued to be reviewed though to ensure we are promoting content of interest, such as article content which was suggested in an earlier post.

we do value the feedback we get from all our users. it is difficult to incorporate all of it though so hope that you understand this.

Something gives me the feeling that the ‘video adverts’ feedback might be ignored.

Just a pity that you just grabbed the theme from another site and put it here rather than actually made a proper forum theme that reflected ‘racing’ ahem http://soyrex.com/

Also the site looks pathetic on IE6 which although its a s**** browser, some of us get to suffer it all day in work and some graceful degradation would be nice. For example the login box obscures the front page content.

which site do you think we’ve grabbed a theme from porky?

apologies for the ie6 issues. it’s always hard work making sites work how they should in ie6 – its not a fun browser but we know a few of you are on it so we will work to ensure the site does work well in ie6. is there anything in particular you are experiencing other than on the homepage – if you point us in the direction of the issues we’ll do our best to resolve them as quickly as possible

We think about 1 in 8 of you will have problems logging in with your password.

That must include both Artemis and Cruella – they’re usually logged in all the time! [/color:jscg2w7g]

I changed over to Mozilla and everything is fine and dandy. I’m sure the tweaks will be ironed out. No problems with the adverts or anything like that.

I have one suggestion though. Can you up the minimum picture size a little so i can upload a half decent picture for my profile once you sort it out. Maybe up the size to about 13kb from the current size of 6kb as there’s plenty of space anyway ?

For any that want to get rid of the Ads and are on Firefox, the ad-blocker still works. I haven’t seen an ad on here for months :D

Well done to the IT Crowd – I think it’s all very good.

Nice modern layout, site really slow at the moment though. Interesting that I now appear to be called ‘AngloGerm’ according to my ‘User Control Panel’. Will be OK as long as no-one logs on as ‘Domestos’.

Apart from the slow loading, looks good

Perhaps if messages werent quite so spaced out (well…not in one meaning of the word…unless we are refering to some of the weirder posters)

Other than that, really like it…

I would suggest that any further criticisms of the site from people like Grasshopper should be dealt with immediate life bans

Need to get firm here you know

I am finding the new site very slow but looks good. If the speed issue can be sorted out (I am using Internet Explorer) then everything will be fine. Will take a bit of getting used too but thats ok.

Thanks guys – feedback much appreciated. We’re having conference call tonight to see where we are at and speed of site is top of my list.

Porky – The site is free to users but there are obviously costs associated with running it which the adverts support.

I’ll be in the chatroom later tonight(I’ll post when I’m in there) so if you want to bend my ear you know where I’ll be.

Unfortunately Corm, the adverts slow the site down considerably, perhaps you might consider running it off donations rather than like this?

That I dont have a problem with but if you have video ads everywhere taking up 33% of your screen its a step too far in my opinion.

Oh and while your on the ‘conference call’ going to sort the clock out ffs, its still an hour out.

Edit also try fixing some of the errors on the site, from the w3c site

Errors found while checking this document as XHTML 1.0 Transitional!

    Result: 95 Errors, 75 warning(s)

    roffle :)
