hAVE to do this just to say what an abserloot legend he is had to stop clipping n run in n watch him, as it reminds me of azzas days, i was so worried for him as personally thought he should have been given best after his last injery, however am proved wrong he ran an amazing race, n if he had had few more runs, think it would av been a different story, however i think the superstar cheif just showed 2day that masterminded wouldent have been so highly rated, if in the days of moscow, azza n well cheif, i just hope n prey that cheif is ok 2moz, he made my day xx
March 12, 2009 at 00:33 #215442visions of this half clipped horse stood there wondering what on earth was going on! yes; he is a legend; haven’t seen the interview with his lass yet but I understand she was in tears…..
March 12, 2009 at 00:35 #215443Absolutely – his gallant runner-up effort is one of the most heart-warming moments of the festival so far.
I hope he goes to Aintree for the 2m 4f chase….but will VPU and MM go there as well…….

March 12, 2009 at 00:36 #215445ahhhh bless can imagine she was as i nearly was n choked he makes me think of azza so much, i felt like i ran n jumped every stride 4 him like i do with ours.. i love him to bits. xx
March 12, 2009 at 00:37 #215447I hope Well Chief will be remembered for the brilliant horse he is even though he’s never won the Champion Chase. He must have some heart to run like he did today after all his problems. I hope he’s sound tomorrow so that we get the chance to see him on the racecourse again. To see him win a race again would be an awesome sight.
Well done to all the Pipe team. Many people seem to have a real aversion to the Pipes but how can they argue against such a brilliant training performance?March 12, 2009 at 00:44 #215450Fantastic and on a day when all praise should go to a very, very good winner I hope his performance brings the Master Minded (best horse ever crew) down to earth a bit.
If a Well Chief who has been plagued by injury, the same one who couldn’t beat Moscow or Azertyuiop when fully fit (albeit a bit young) can get that close to MM then, well…
March 12, 2009 at 00:47 #215452I don’t see why the MM crew need bringing down a peg or two. MM doesn’t come into the equation. Well Chief ran brilliantly whether MM was behind him or in front of him. I was so thrilled for his connections Another wonderful moment.

March 12, 2009 at 01:37 #215468gottah be the best racing sight ive ever sean in long time…… infact both him n macoys ride yesterday.. abserllot hero times of the week……. deffo the est so far this festival by a long shot….xxxxxxxxxxxx
March 12, 2009 at 03:19 #215503Hard to know where he’ll go from here. He blatantly failed to see out two miles-four at Aintree behind Monet’s Garden on his final start before injury.
Let’s hope David Pipe opens the door to his stable tomorrow and finds him A1. That’s the next step.
The horse deserved the plaudits today and what a great training performance by David Pipe.
I hope to see him again, but what a great memory to leave behind.
My favourite moment of The Festival so far.
March 12, 2009 at 03:56 #215518Twice he has run blinders after lengthy lay-offs so IMO give him a 365 day break and have another go at MM next year. The last thing he needs is a gruelling 2m4f race or weight carrying in a handicap so the options for him are very limited anyway.

Why don’t they bring him to Punchestown? Surely a longer break and then a hack round against the likes of Mansony and Watson Lake would be better than taking on Voy Por Ustedes, Imperial Commander and Monets Garden over a trip that probably stretches him at Liverpool.
Great to see him back though and credit to the Pipes.
March 12, 2009 at 15:44 #215616I too was so pleased to see him back and running such a good race yesterday. The really good news is that according to David Pipes site he seems fine this morning and has been led out for a pick of grass.
March 12, 2009 at 16:45 #215642Another he ‘s not as good as Moscow Flyer thread
You could argue Well Chief would have been much closer in his hey day but Ruby Walsh would be quick to remind you MM wasn’t at his best yesterday.
You could also argue that Well Chief is no more a legend than flying in the air as his clain to fame is 2 novice grade 1’s and a couple of almosts when it really mattered.
Anyway who’s to say this 10 year old Well Chief never ran to his very best?. He hasn’t exactly been over raced and the Pipes have pulled of bigger miracles. Looked very much like his old self to me.
MM certainly never showed the zest he showed last year and look nowhere near as good as he did at Ascot when he beat Petite Robin in a common cnter and by much further.
This horse is in a different league to Moscow Flyer and could win as many as 5 QMCC if he stays sound.
Maybe you don’t know Beckie but MM will be only a 7 year old next year and most chasers reach their prime around 8 and 9 years of age.

March 12, 2009 at 16:57 #215646General conventional wisdom is that French-breds are more precocious and peak and mature earlier and hence, begin to decline earlier than UK or Irish-breds which means that MM could well be at his peak now!
He’ll never win another race I reckon
March 12, 2009 at 18:22 #215691Hi David could you answer me a personal question. Do you have a big mortgae on your house? If it’s paid off put up your title deed I’ll put up the cash equivalant and I’ll take that bet.
Always wanted a house in Ireleand
