From March 9th, the RacingPost Weekender and the Racform Update are to merge due to the economic climate.
If they take the best from each paper this will be one great publicationFebruary 2, 2011 at 16:53 #338821Agreed.
I’ll buy the digital edition if they drop the pages and pages of filler (entries, declarations and results) and replace them with articles and analysis. They should be able to do that by merging both papers into the one edition.
Look forward to it with interest.
February 2, 2011 at 18:29 #338831Had to come. Have always been a Weekender man myself, but this can only be good. Tyrone Molloy must be sending out a few CVs though.
March 9, 2011 at 13:46 #343895Any news on this? Today was supposed to be the day, according to the opening post.
March 9, 2011 at 13:58 #343901I do hope they reduce the size to A5, rename it "The Sporting Chronicle Handicap Book" and include adverts for Masons Time Test, Juniorator, Frank Armstrong and all the other "odds to 2 bob" tipsters.

March 9, 2011 at 14:10 #343905From a first glance at it on the train this morning, initial thoughts are:
-Simon Holt over Matt Chapman a no no for me. Chapman is marmite but to his credit he will address important issues head on. Simon Holt no doubt has appeal but lost me when he started comparing Menorah to an eagle or something
-Signposts now included
-Overview of topspeed methodology for raceform readers
-Andrew Mount, pretty good column. Peter Naughton, will reserve judgement.
-Tom Segal and Nick Mordin made it, good news as far as I’m concerned.
-I always liked Ken the paddock watchers column. He has been given a much smaller space.March 9, 2011 at 14:15 #343907Cheers. They have the digital version available to purchase on the website. Will check it out later.

Feckin’ typical, glad Mounty’s got the gig though.

Audio. If you can stand the voice, it is fairly interesting.

You’ve mixed up the phrase "pretty good" with "******* fantastic". I’m amazed this guy hasn’t been offered a column in the Weekender.

You’ve mixed up the phrase "pretty good" with "[expletive] fantastic". I’m amazed this guy hasn’t been offered a column in the Weekender.
Sorry, I feel embarrassed – somehow I seem to have got the names Andrew Mount and Billy Wallace confused – an easy mistake to make no?
On the plus side it shows you’re brand power – I remember seeing you in racing magazines you don’t even have a column in!
You’re books are [expletive] good though

Well, maybe. Although I’ll still need a Racing Post when I go to the races. I took my iPad once & it nearly got nicked.
March 11, 2011 at 19:08 #344226Hope the excellent point to point coverage in the Weekender has survived. Paper arrived at work this morning but forgot to read it
March 11, 2011 at 22:39 #344259I have to agree about Holt v Chapman. Chapman addressed issues and was provocative whereas Holt seems more cozy and in crowd anecdotes. Bad call.
March 11, 2011 at 23:36 #344271I also concur as to the Chapman column. Hard hitting, no nonesense (well maybe a little). He is an asset to the industry from a punters point of view. Puts his neck on the line but always insists he can be wrong. Much admiration for the clown
