Looking at the BBC Weather site, we could be in for soft ground for Cheltenham.
Looking at the Met Office site, we could be in for good ground.
Value Is EverythingMarch 8, 2024 at 13:02 #1683961last two days been bright cold and no rain live right next to Fergal’s yard, but wouldn’t need a lot to tip it back to very soft with what we have had last two weeks

This is on the jockey club website- looks super scientific but no idea how accurate it is

Judging by that I’d say most likely to be good-soft for the start… Or somewhere between good-soft and soft,Value Is EverythingMarch 9, 2024 at 10:47 #1684124Both the Old and New courses now good to soft, soft in places.
March 9, 2024 at 15:34 #1684221no rain at the moment today but cold, will update around mid day tomorrow as a band of rain is due
March 10, 2024 at 04:46 #1684297Rain forecast on myweather2…
Sun 5mm
Mon Mainly dry
Tue 2mm
Wed Dry
Thu Dry
Fri 4mmMarch 10, 2024 at 08:19 #1684299we had a bit of rain overnight still in the air, damp and overcast and looks like a little more to come in next few hours, i would say bordering on soft going come race day
March 10, 2024 at 08:27 #1684300story just gone on RP website that he has already changed the going to soft
March 10, 2024 at 08:35 #1684301Is a small amount of rain forecast potentially worse for Thursday and Friday soft ground horses than no rain at all?
A small amount may convince them not to water.
Value Is EverythingMarch 10, 2024 at 10:01 #1684316Both courses now soft again after the rain yesterday.
Track forecast leaves me thinking there’s still a good chance of good to soft on Tuesday as long as there’s not much rain today.Good to soft, soft in places is probably the most likely.
March 10, 2024 at 10:01 #1684317Matt Tombs (Cheltenham trends guru) did a good piece on Matchbook last year which you can find here
Matt Tombs | Cheltenham Trends | Analysing The Impact Of Watering
I think what may stand them in good stead this year is they’ve not had to water the course much if at all prior to the other meetings this NH season which wasn’t the case in previous seasons where they had drier October and Novembers.
Very complicated stuff to be honest and although an important varibale (the going) its getting harder to trust what is given and what is heavy at Haydock isnt heavy at Cheltenham etc, so many variations within the official goings, so I’m starting to ignore it a bit more personally.
March 10, 2024 at 13:03 #1684341i would really be surprised if you get real good to soft in the going come the first day. Soft and maybe just maybe a few yards of GS
March 10, 2024 at 13:19 #1684343What’s the betting they’ll say it is softer than it actually is though?
Value Is EverythingMarch 10, 2024 at 14:46 #1684370could well do that, raining again now and although not heavy rain its still about in the air and looks like a bit to come later.
March 10, 2024 at 16:41 #1684404sorry to bore you all but its **** down for nearly two hours easing off now. if he puts GS anywhere in going on first day he is telling porkies
March 10, 2024 at 17:16 #1684409We’re just under 40 miles south of the racecourse, and we’ve had a dry day; they’ve been unlucky up at Prestbury Park today.
