Thanks to libraries everywhere: they are the touchstone of civilisation.

…sation or …zation Pinza?
As you may surmize, Drone, Pinza is ezpecially enamoured of the Zed. However, in the case of
Civilisation
, I prefer to follow our dearly beloved (and too long departed) Sir Kenneth Clark, rather than Mr Sid Meier.

Tsk. Tsk. For the record, I’m a chartered librarian of 12 years’ standing, and I’m so passionate I positively
throb

In an understated intellectual sort of way my friend. No doubt the prospect of a looming point to point season and the delights of Hackwood Park, or in my case, Charing and Kingston Blount, get the throb going even more.

Actually, I’ve just sent Mr. Grayson a video that I’m sure will make him throb even more positively than usual!
(Don’t worry – it’s just last Sundays Quakenbrueck Lake Race!!).
Hey Darren, what about the rest of us. I’d love to see the Quakenbrueck Lake Race as well, any chance of a link from the site mate?

More than happy to follow old Ken myself. What a marvellous series that was: austere, matter-of-fact, no frills, but riveting. Bronowski’s
The Ascent of Man
and the charming

It’s one of those little intellectual conundrums akin to connection and connexion that’s provided many an Oxbridge collegiate anchovies-on-toast-by-the-fireside evening with hours of circuitous and heated, but of course gentlemanly, debate

I have always decided that, were I ever fortunate enough to buy a horse, I would name it after a Manics song.
Found That Soul, Sleepflower, Starlover and Patrick Bateman are all good choices, I think.
So Dead, Of Walking Abortion, Ceremonial Rape Machine and Drug Drug Druggy, less so.
Personally, I think Dream Alliance’s owners – from Blackwood – missed out on something, there.

Of course! Sorry, I thought the whole world might be getting fed up with me and lake races! I’ve not got the whole race unfortunately, but a local TV company have put a quick report together of Sundays events, and you see the horses going through the lake about 50 seconds into the report – but it’s not quite Hamburg or Harzburg. The lake is nowhere near as deep, and instead of swimming across like they do at the other two, they run through this one. Anyway, enjoy!
