Looking like being a decent little race
Kalif du Berlais 7/2 would be my pick stepping up in tripCharles Darwin to conquer the World
January 29, 2025 at 20:31 #1719120Jango Baie 11-8
January 30, 2025 at 16:04 #1719167I’ve bet the rag here Mark Of Gold at 33-1
January 30, 2025 at 18:58 #1719177I like Handstands as he beat Jango Baie over hurdles and given the testing ground (currently soft, heavy in places with more rain due Friday) and the fact that he has already won a PTP over 3m (on soft to heavy ground) as a 4 year old and two starts ago he won a 3m Novice Chase at Sandown (also on soft ground), I think the likely attritional conditions will suit him much better than his rivals.
Kalif Du Berlais (3rd 17L behind Sir Gino in a G1 at Aintree) may turn out to be the best of the lot in the long term but he is a big horse and a year younger than his aforementioned rivals and although he has won on heavy in France, the trip (1st try at 2m4f) in testing ground maybe a bit of a big ask for a 5 yr old.
January 30, 2025 at 19:16 #1719179I’m a fan of Handstands.
The more I know the less I understand.
January 31, 2025 at 06:24 #1719207Too short for me but I think Jango Baie wins if he turns up. It should
shorten his odds for the Brown Advisory which will please me no end.January 31, 2025 at 20:07 #1719272Handstands at 10-3, though it’s more in hope as Jango like looks a tough nut to crack
February 1, 2025 at 10:44 #1719344I’m hoping that Kalif Du Berlais can turn out to be a really good one, so I’ve taken 3-1

No bet, in this, for me.
The 2 Bens are a formidable partnership this season, for sure
February 1, 2025 at 14:47 #17194232nd last nearly cost him, he had to sit and go short where the runner up met it on a better stride and I think had a slight lead coming away from it.
Two very good and tough horses who I think might be heading in different directions trip wise in the future, I wouldn’t write off Kalif either as he clearly didn’t get home over that trip under those deep conditions, I feel a drop back to 2m will see him in a much better light.
February 1, 2025 at 15:20 #1719438Cheers Mike and Wilts.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 1, 2025 at 16:20 #1719478Missed the race but well done everyone on the winner
February 1, 2025 at 16:54 #1719493I had four bets in the 4 horse race and got the winner.

Backed Kalif Du Berlais first @ 100/30
Then saw just how soft it was forecast to be, KDB far from certain to stay 2m4f on very soft ground which made him very opposable.
So laid him back for the smallest of profits…
…And when the evidence of very soft ground grew I instead backed Handstands @ 7/2 with a saver on the fav.So eventually…
