Crock,
RSB? How dare you! It’s for weights on the day.
johngringo,
I did actually round the figures up. It is, however, nearer 2:1 than 1.5:1.

October 15, 2007 at 15:13 #119615Hi Crock,
Thanks for the good wishes, I am coming to terms with it as best as one can with these things. They were dark days indeed Crock. It permeated all aspects of my life, which I didn’t expect or was prepared for.
With the Framed weights VDW claimed 75% of the winners carried less than 11-5 so perhaps the figures need combining? and the one advantage gained by being a smaller share of an even percentage is totally outdone by the other.
October 15, 2007 at 16:01 #119625Hello and best wishes to everyone,
May I say how interesting it has been reading this excellent thread. I have taken an interest in the VDW methods for a number of years now but have never before had the opportunity to discuss his ideas with like-minded people. Anyway, great to be here.
Regarding Red Gala’s race on Saturday last, one thing VDW always suggested was to run several cross-checks on any potential selections.Hensman’s excellent contributions have already shown one way.Using the method outlined in "Racing In My System", in which VDW selected the Derby winner on Saturday’s race gives:
Nosferatu Class 1246 9th, Beaten 11.5l
Peruvian Prince Class 623 13th,Beaten 10l
Players Please Class 623 14th,Beaten 13l
Mariotto Class 529 14th, Beaten 24l
Buccellati Class 211 Won,1/2l, Ran on.I would like to say straight away that I am not trying to "after-time" and I did not back Buccellati.I did, in fact, have a small bet on Red Gala, more fool me!
Best of Luck,all
Dave.October 15, 2007 at 17:30 #119640Hi Pipedreamer,
Please can you post some 100% strike rate bets please, you know like you used to, if its not to much trouble.
October 15, 2007 at 18:05 #119644lol Barney,
Even the great VDW didn’t attempt that, but if you want some odds on losers I’m your man.
October 15, 2007 at 18:12 #119645Good to see new members stacking up .. are you all VDWers ?

October 15, 2007 at 19:18 #119670Good to see new members stacking up .. are you all VDWers ?
I’d like to be a VDWer, but the official VDW toga, (as originally supplied by Johngringo) is now out of stock.
October 15, 2007 at 19:49 #119678I used to be a fan, I must admit, but not an authority. I still maintain its a good place to start off, but it’s been a bit done to death over the years. The same as Clive Holts Fineform formula, if anyone remembers that?
What I like about the VDW rating is that everyone could do the same race and get different selections .. we should have a play sometime.
October 15, 2007 at 20:00 #119685VDW always maintained thar there were different ways of reaching the same conclusion
October 15, 2007 at 20:02 #119686How about a race a day for the VDW’ers to get their respective teeth into?
October 15, 2007 at 21:19 #119722Howzabout the most valuable prize to the winner –
so one day it might be the Derby
another the top chase of the day
or an over sponsored 2yo race!
October 15, 2007 at 21:25 #119726on the subject of 50/50 top and bottom of the weights the + side of this is that you will have less horses with good ability ratings in the bottom half so more can be discounted no?
October 15, 2007 at 21:40 #119734class tells
If you are not already familiar with it, you might find it worthwhile to have a look at VDW’s selection in the 1980 Lincoln.
October 15, 2007 at 21:47 #119737i have also read that the shorter the race the higher average weight of the winners 5f high on average 2m lower,
