Fallon got a useless ban for his riding of Picano Ibelieve it was. Nobody hurt by this decision except the losing horse. How odd. The gamble paid off. The wealthy owners and trainers walk. The jockey who delivered the prise is punished.sad.
August 27, 2010 at 19:40 #314884Personally, I think the winner should have been thrown out. The second appeared to be coming with a winning run but was impeded and lost all impetus. There appears to an unwritten rule which suggests that unless the verdict is a short head or less the result is not changed. As for Fallon’s incorrect use of the whip I think it is something I have made reference to before.
August 27, 2010 at 21:33 #314891I agree Stilvi, I too thought that it should have been thrown out. Not only did it interfere with the seconds impetus it also carried it across the track, and actually bumped it. How can that have not affected the result?.
Although Fallon had the whip in the correct hand he made no attempt to straighten him up other than to use the whip in an illegal area. A suspension was inevitable in my opinionAugust 28, 2010 at 01:20 #314906The stewarding in this country is an absolute embarrassment, but that’s not news.
Personally, I’m all in favour of demoting the winning horse regardless of whether the jockey had his whip in the correct hand or not. If it’s obvious that a horse would have won but for being impeded, there should be no excuse. Save the bans for jockeys that are guilty of a non-trier, and dangerous riding. Simple.
August 28, 2010 at 02:51 #314908This really was one of the most stupid, unforgivable stewarding decisions in Britain I’ve seen. They amazingly get progressively worse and it is disgraceful.
I had no financial interest; in fact if not for reading about it online, I would never have watched the race.
The 2nd horse was carried across the track. Even ignoring the fact the winner carried the 2nd across the track through intimidation for a second, are the stewards blind not to see that the winning margin was exaggerated by the huge bump when the 2nd drew level with the winner? So if the winner would have held on and won by a nose/head (unlikely), surely it would be as simple as the Special Duty situation in the Guineas which meant an obvious demotion was likely?
Never mind, the stewards are totally clueless, the rules are the worst anywhere on the planet, and somehow it is allowed to continue. British racing for you – the best in the world. One jockey will put another over the rail one day, because even that won’t see you disqualified.
