Lost in the 2nd at Hexham today
December 12, 2024 at 22:51 #1715280Yet another fatal breakdown at cruising speed on the flat. I don’t know if my memory is just flawed but I’ve watched racing for 40 years and can never recall so many horses shattering legs while just lobbing along.
Yes there were falls and occasionally heart attacks but now it’s pretty much every week that something is ‘going wrong’ with no obvious reason.
Am I just misremembering or is there something rotten at the heart of it? Poor breeding? Poor training? Young horses doing the wrong things, too soon?
I love NH racing but I can’t help but feel this stuff will ultimately be the demise of the sport, because you surely can’t keep going when there’s barely a day passing without an animal ending up dead.
December 12, 2024 at 23:13 #1715281Sadly I agree with you Enniskeane Flame.
December 12, 2024 at 23:59 #1715282Incredible to see them getting injured on perfect ground without being ridden or interfered with. It wasn’t even a bad step and have to agree with the posts above that this is becoming quite frequent even though the overall numbers might tell a different story. It’s not the obstacles killing the horses just the poor breed apparently.
May he rest in peace
