NRNB is for sissies (and the sensible) but trainer chat about the Kim Muir is making me nervous so reluctantly passed up the better price. Monty’s brother is better than the Kim Muir! I really like him and think he could be a graded horse.

Love this^ tbf – I feel the same way about: each-way betting, cashing out and having a child and calling it “Mike.”
I’m not sure I’ve backed the winner of this since The Tsarevitch when it was the Mildmay Of Flete, but I’m determined to solve it this year!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 19, 2024 at 12:38 #1681696Picking up on a theme in the Kingwell Hurdle thread in the Horse Racing section: how unfortunate that the Mildmay of Flete is now the TrustaTrader Plate.
I know the game needs sponsors but racing does treat its history with contempt sometimes.
February 19, 2024 at 15:02 #1681711Elfast was my last winner of this..only the once though.
February 19, 2024 at 17:42 #1681724“Mildmay Of Flete” doesn’t really roll off the tongue.
Never struck me as a nice name tbh…If names weren’t changed then nobody would use the sponsor’s name and so it not be as effective a sponsorship for the company… They may have gone to another sport or not put as much money in…
Sorry but: With some obvious exceptions… If a choice between having the original name and significantly more prize money… it would be difficult to argue to keep the names.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 19, 2024 at 18:03 #1681729I don’t understand why the can’t have the traditional name, prefaced by the sponsor.
The TrustATrader Mildmay Of Flete Handicap Steeplechase isn’t that difficult, is it?
February 19, 2024 at 18:21 #1681731Presumably because then nobody takes any notice of who the sponsor is, Glad’.
If we had winners given trophies in a ceremony similar to the Breeders Cup, then fair enough they’d get their moment in the spotlight.
But do we really want to see that?Besides… Am pretty sure that when Whitbread started sponsoring the Sandown Gold Cup, that must have got a lot of bad publicity too… Now we’d all love the old name back; for history’s sake.
I do think sponsors should need to give short names to the bigger races.
tbh As new names go “Trusta Trader Plate” seems ok to me.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 19, 2024 at 18:42 #1681734I understand the need to appease sponsors, but the “Build That Twenty-Eight-Horse Cheltenham Festival Accumulator – Maximum Pay Out A ‘Lady Godiva’ – With Nathbet Selling Handicap Hurdle” at Folkestone later this week seems a bit of a gobful to me tbf.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 5, 2024 at 19:23 #1683693Just had a look through, I thought Cheltenham form would really come to the fore here so have gone for GA LAW 15/1
+ SHAKEEMUP’ARRY 15/1. Both winners here last time out over the distance after disappointing runs over further.Would have added SEDDON to that (got pocket change on in the ryanair) but he’s missing from some bookies lists for all three races he is entered in, so maybe they know something?
March 12, 2024 at 12:37 #1684806Terrible record in this, with only one winner, and even then the selection was via “win any race”, rather than actually liking him for this.
I didn’t look at the entries or this thread until Final Decs, as I would’ve bet something.
Il Ridoto or Riaan look the sensible calls to me, but I’ve a few others to bet.
I really didn’t want to see Torn and Frayed in there, but he is. Really liked him two years back, but after long layoff, he’s cost me a few quid. Should really write him off, but in I go again.
Fighter Allen is a horse I liked when with WPM, but here he is with Pipe now. Sketchy jumper, and that’s being kind, but I can’t leave him
I’ll stupidly bet that pair, as although a bit “Cliff Horsey”, I can still make a case for them. Both huge prices just now, and I’ll start chipping away shortly
I’ll go three up with either Il Ridoto or Riaan, and I’ll see how respective yards are faring first of all
Fighter Allen 100’s EW
Riaan 22’s
Torn and Frayed 66’sMarch 14, 2024 at 11:21 #1685786I like In Excelsis Deo. Good Cheltenham form behind Madara and Dancing on my Own over 2 miles. I think stepping up in trip shouldn’t be a problem. Last time at Sandown he was about to win, but fell at the last. I think he is on a nice mark.
Also added course specialist Il Ridioto. With a claimer on board he is on his lowest mark in two years and he has won here.
In Excelsis Deo 12/1
