Poor Truckers Tavern, seemed to be really enjoying himself today & jumping with enthusiasm. Dropped back quickly & had a heart attack.
It was a good way to go doing what he loved, but sad he couldn’t have a happy retirement. A great horse.
I believe Lord of our own broke a leg in the same race.
RIP both of them

Rumours that Tuckers Tavern collapsed and died in the Eider Chase today but this is not reported on the Sporting Life or RP websites. Any confirmation? Sad if true as this was a fine stayer- placed in a Gold Cup behind Best Mate and winner of the Peter Marsh.
Realise this may belong in memorials section if true.

Incidentally conditions at Newcastle and Kempton looked very gruelling today with a number of horses having hard races and some odd results. I wouldn’t be rushing to back many for the festival as they have comparatively little time to recover. Pipe’s ran like drains and Fitzgerald seemed to nick that hurdle off the front with others conceding too much ground to him.
That’s very sad. Grand horses, especially Truckers Tavern :(

Truckers Tavern seemed to really enjoy himself before getting tired. It’s always sad, but he can’t have suffered and was doing something he loved, cliched though that notion is.

It was sad to see when he’d obviously been running with enthusiasm, and you could tell something was wrong. He went from enthusiasm to almost a stand still in no time, and the last shot you saw of him, he lifted his tail high in the air, obviously in some sort of discomfort. I wasn’t surprised to hear afterwards that he’d come to grief. Didn’t see what happened to Lorofourown.

    They’ll both be missed.

I had no idea this had happened. It’s very sad news, although the old boy had obviously been on the slide for a long time.

I will always remember Trucker’s Tavern as the horse that finished 2nd to one of the greatest displays I’ve seen in a horse race, Best Mate in his 2nd Gold Cup.
