    Here we go again……

We’ve had a competition the last few years on TRF, going up against Pricewise with his Ante-Post Cheltenham picks, so if anybody is interested, I’ll run one again this year.

He starts off with The Champion Hurdle this This Tuesday, followed by The Stayers Hurdle on Wednesday, and The Gold Cup on Thursday.

If he follows the same format as usual, the other races will be………

    Supreme
    Arkle
    Neptune Novices
    Triumph

but I’ll watch it as each week progresses.

The main aim is to beat him, but obviously wee bit of kudos for whoever comes out on top of the TRF tipsters.

Here’s a reminder of last years comp, won by PeterH, and after going close for a few years, Pricewise was well beaten.

    TRF vs Pricewise 2017

The Rules are as follows, **** please read, even if you have played before, as there are new rules this year****

    – One selection per race, unless Pricewise makes additional selections, either win or each way.
    – If Pricewise takes a price which is not yet advertised, then those of you who have also made that selection will automatically get that price if they’ve taken lower.
Only Bookmakers which I list before will be accepted.
    – Late entries will be permitted, but to qualify for every race, please check weekly for deadlines. For example this week, to qualify for all 3 races, entries must be in by Sunday 14th January at Midnight. Any entries received after this will still be allowed in, but you will be down 6 points for those 3 races, but will not be allowed to make a selection.
    – Selections can be made for a race, only after the time and date stipulated on here. If you can’t make it on here for a race, let me know, either on here or by private message, and I will take the best price available once the race opens.
    – Anyone not stipulating win or each way, will automatically be given their selection as each wayplease please please double check this.
    – Prices quoted at the time of posting (i.e no aftertiming), try to quote which Firms are offering the price on your selections, again AT THE TIME OF POSTING, or just state if generally available. Please, please, please do not make up a price, or use one which is long gone…….leading me to get bombarded by private messages complaining about people cheating.
    – NRNB will not count for any selections. If Pricewise makes future selections for a race already covered, these won’t count for the competition.

    – That’s it. If anyone thinks of anything I’ve missed from last year, then fire away.

Entries for this weeks races will kick off at 1500 hours on Monday 8th January, and all entries for these 3 races must be in by Midnight on Sunday 14th January.

These are the most important points, so worth posting them again, though please still read the rules……

    List of Bookies
    Bet365
    Skybet
    Ladbrokes
    William Hill
    Betfair Sportsbook
    Paddy Power
    Coral
    Betfred
    Totesport
    Boylesports
    Betbright
    Betway
    888sport
    BetVictor
    Stan James

Pricewise seems to stick to the main firms, but I’ve seen him use all of these, so I’m happy with any of these.

The Schedule (so far) is as follows, and I’ll update once I know more.

    Tues Jan 9: Champion Hurdle
    Weds Jan 10: Stayers’ Hurdle
    Thurs Jan 11: Gold Cup

    Tues Jan 16: Champion Chase
    Weds Jan 17: Ryanair Chase

    Rule Changes/Deadlines
In this competition I am at the mercy of Pricewise, and will follow his lead (as we are trying to beat him), so make sure you log in once a week at the very least, so you might miss a new race, deadline, rule change etc….

    ********WIN OR EACH WAY*********
Whether you take an Even Money Shot, or a 100-1 Shot PLEEEEEEEEASSSE, pretty please, will you put win or each way. This is the most important part of all, and the one that gives me most headaches.

Did I mention to put win or each way lol. In case I didn’t………Whether you take an Even Money Shot, or a 100-1 Shot PLEEEEEEEEASSSE, pretty please, will you put win or each way.

    And of course, good luck.

Excuse me for asking a stupid question but I am new to this competition. On what basis do you calculate and hence decide who wins? I.e. what is the incentive for going for a win bet and is there a maximum stake budget across all the races?

Thanks VTC. One more stupid question if I may. So there is no incentive for selecting a horse with longer odds other than if a horse with long odds wins, or places, other participants are less likely to have selected it?

The incentive is that your P&L will be boosted significantly. It’s just like you would do a betting P&L, the one with the best return on tips come the end wins.

I see what you’re getting at but no there is incentive to select higher odds.
When VTC talks about points he doesn’t mean if you pick a winner that’s 2 points to your tally he means that you are effectively putting £2 on at that price. Whereas with each way you are putting £1 each way at that price hence leaving out £2 in both scenarios.

For example if you picked a 2/1 winner you would have a 2 points win on it which is +4 points profit

If you had 1 point each way on an 8/1 shot and it comes placed you would get 1 points profit overall as it’s 2 points profit for the place but you lost a point on the win.

If you did an 8/1 shot each way and it won you would get 8 points profit for the win and 2 points profit as the place landed too so 10 points profit on that race.

Hope I have got that right myself !!! Haha
Apologise if i have got that wrong I’ll delete if so. But I think I’m correct

Hi All, long time reader and follower of the forum – but strangely, first time poster. Looking forward to being a bit more involved though – and having a crack at this plus another couple of the Racing Competitions on TRF. Predictably, thought I’d kick my TRF career off with a stupid question, sure I’m not in a club of one here!

VTC, I promise that I’ve read the rules before for posting! Just a quick one, are there any restrictions around selecting the same horse for a race that Pricewise does; given that it’s a competition against him? This isn’t an intended tactic, just wondering in case it happens! Thanks in advance.

    Thanks,
    PIB
