Wonder what odds we could have gotten for there to be two playffs, I’d say about 10/1?

Love the way Ben likes to calculate the odds about literally everything – always looking for value!

It surely runs in the family – Ben’s umpteen greats grand father at Hastings in 1066: “The gaffer’s just copped an arrow in the eye! What were the odds about THAT?”

The year is 1854, great-great-great-great-great grandad Bernanke strolls into Ye Olde Ladbroke Bookmakers with his ticket:

‘What do you mean ‘unplaced’? He finished fourth!’

‘Sir, the rules are quite clear. The Charge of the Light Brigade is not a handicap, three places only.’

Chezza’s chuckling large into his morning coffee at THAT.^

It’s all getting a bit betting Blackadder down the ages – love it!

Back in the cave man days…..

“and so at those odds I had to bet the teacher couldn’t spell Bernanke”
“yeah but you didn’t have to bet my club too”

Haha it’s funny you say that, I’d actually completely forgotten about this but now that you mentioned it I remember being told when I was child that my great grandfather used to be a sports journalist and did a lot of reporting on horse racing!!

I hope I am not a Trap 1 that pings out, goes several lengths clear but then starts paddling heading into the final turn.

I am still wondering why CAS does not have many more votes at this stage; my poem references, unkindly, 15 poem contributers who have ample reason to be annoyed. They must have very tough skin.

Chezza has always believed that, if there’s one thing worse than bad publicity, it’s no publicity at all.

Chezza’s consequently a Marginal Value fan – but Chezza is also a CAS fan and therein lies the dilemma.

I find these fly or bantam weight knuckle dusting compos hugely interesting 🤔 and as a sideshow – entertaining. Let’s face it – through a process called metamorphosis a battered fly can become a monocled moth with a writing addiction, a monocled moth with a writing addiction can become a non rhyming monosyllabic motherf*cker Richard Amis type character that can’t rhyme a boot. This is how disorder is created – how deformed births warp their energies into black holes or the birth of a race of ingrates known as Razeen.
HAVE I WON ANY VOTES ?

Aside from the above, which even I fail to understand – it has been a hugely interesting compo this year. Detecting the poems has been the only slight mar in a contest of some jollity – perhaps a pure thread of poems would have been less challenging, but that aside, there has been a plethora of well… poems !

Well Gamble, even though the contest is getting rather predictable looking back at its history, it left me feeling more bamboozled than ever  The voting kinda reminds me of when Aiden O’Brien infuses several horses in a race to tactically gang up on the biggest threats to suffocate their chances of winning. I felt rather confident of making the final but, that said, I think I was doomed from the outset (Browne’s Gazette in the 1985 Champion Hurdle ring any bells?). Anyway, let’s face it, I’m an infrequent poster, not in any circles, don’t participate in betting contests, daily lays, etc and find many of the topics boring … so why should anyone really consider picking me, the misfit of the classroom? :yahoo:

Good luck in the final Gamble :good:
