So Christmas is over for another year and not a great 2 days punting for most of us with a couple of short-priced favourites getting turned over.

No such problems for non-vintage though who scored a very impressive 19.90pts over the 5 races, thanks in no small part to Fiepes Shuffle each-way in the Desert Orchid Chase but also helped along by Albertas Run each way in the King George.

Only 2 other entrants scored positively over the 2 days with Danny & wakeman both scoring 6.00pts, thanks to Harchibald and Nozic respectively to go with 4 losers each.

In the overall non vintage finished up with more points than any other competitor on 39.46pts, 16.46pts ahead of wakeman in 2nd spot, but unfortunately he failed to select in at least half of this section’s races (just 1 race short with 11 selections from 23 races) so it is with no small regret that I must declare him ineligible for this section’s prize. The loss of the Boylesports meeting at Cheltenham meant that it was impossible for non vintage to meet the race quota

I will amend the rules going forward to ensure that this scenario will not occur in the future but I cannot retrospectively change the rules as this would be unfair on all other entrants.

So following this stewards enquiry, wakeman is declared the winner of the first section with a score of 23.00pts. Well done wakeman and congratulations on an excellent score.

A monster weekend’s racing behind us there and a couple of pointers with the Festival just 6 weeks away

Anyway, a good weekend for non vintage who continues his excellent recent form to score 8.48 pts to top the scoring over the 5 races, thanks mainly to Songe each-way in the Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock but also helped by both Chief Yeoman and United each-way in their respective races. The only other competitor to score positively was doublethetrouble who scored 6.50 pts for his weekend’s work, thanks mainly to Cloudy Lane win-only in the Peter Marsh Chase.

who scored a whopping 83 points over the 4 races. Not content with having a 28/1 winner in the opener thanks to Pagan Starprincess, he also went on to have Joe Lively at 11/1 and Big Bucks at 7/2. And all win-only! Battlecry let him down for the sweep in the 2nd race (and probably saved his local bookie from extinction!)
