Interesting to see that one of my selections Riguez Dancer has gone from one syndicate to another and is now with David’s DPRP syndicate.
October 3, 2009 at 13:05 #251430If I’m not mistaken Ostland is entered fot the Tattersalls horses in training sales. No idea what he’s worth really. Having won a bad listed hurdle race in Baden baden on his debut, this would mean him having to carry big penalties in novice races in England wouldn’t it?

Yes, he looks a very nice horse. Rated 125 over hurdles, still only a 5yo and plenty of scope for novice chasing. We are very pleased to have him.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him land the Lord Mildmay Memorial Chase next year. The only niggling doubt in the back of my mind is that the 7yo gelding may just want ground the quicker side of good which may minimize his chances this winter despite heavy ground form back in Ireland but what we do know is the horse wants to win and has shown a determined mentality which is priceless, he is a horse to follow.
King Troy – 3.55 Market Rasen 1.95 5PT WIN
It was money for jam in the end, really, even with him dossing all the way up the straight. Can confirm that the likes of the Summer Plate and the Lord Mildmay are his longer-term targets, and the fears about effectiveness on winter going can probably be forgotten about to an extent as he’ll most likely be sitting out the colder months after his next – and final – summer-cum-autumn start.

Thanks Grays, much appriciated pal.
October 4, 2009 at 12:27 #251645The list is up to 55 horses now.
I will close it next Thursday to set it up for a start next Saturday.October 4, 2009 at 13:03 #251657What, is it a competition or something?
edit: I’d like to nominate Willie Mullins’ entire string.
October 4, 2009 at 13:14 #251659No competition Gerald. Outside of Saturdays and the odd Sunday and weekday not much going on in racing for the next 5 months imo. Will help me maintain interest following the horses that have been put up so far.
October 5, 2009 at 00:36 #251852Chatted to Paul Nicholls at Cheltenham Open Day today. He plans first entries at Chepstow on Sat, but was clear if ground is not right he will wait.
Good to chat to such an approachable chap. He was happy to talk to everyone there. He’s a credit to the sport.
It was a good event. Great to get the chance to see the signed pegs in the weighing room.
As they say about the new season, bring it on!
October 5, 2009 at 17:53 #251948Portal’s Toy
– putting up a bit of a dark horse for the staying hurdles this season. The French trained Portal’s Toy generally regarded as a Enghien chasing specialist dropped back to the smaller obstacles at Auteuil when winning the Prix La Barka and chasing home France’s top hurdler Questarabad in the French Champion Hurdle. It’s been mentioned after each of his last two runs by both trainer David Windrif and jockey Nathalie Dessouter that they feel he’d be ideally suited to the English hurdles and the ground we get over here – I expect he’ll take in the Grand-Steeplechase De Enghien again and the Prix D’Automne back at Auteuil over hurdles before heading to the UK for the Cleeve or Rendlesham IMO.
Portal’s Toy has just won the listed 100,000 Euro Prix De La Gascoigne at Enghien-Soisy by two lengths beating the likes of Loulia and Or Noir De Somoza.
Onwards and upwards – glad I took some big prices on betfair
October 5, 2009 at 23:59 #252027Having presumed him ineligible for novices’ chases, I notice Cappa Bleu is entered in two of them this Saturday – one at Chepstow and one at Bangor.
I wonder if the Foxhunters’ win counts as the equivalent of any post-March 1st novice chase win, meaning he’d be allowed to run in actual novices’ chases until October 31st. Can anyone clarify, please?

October 6, 2009 at 00:07 #252030I think he’s eligible for novice chases up until the 31st October though unsure of that one Jeremy.
Still annoyed that the Triumph Hurdle entry criteria is "for 4yo Novice Hurdlers" – ie. all our British and Irish 4yos will be novices but it means no backing of Temple Lord for me
October 6, 2009 at 00:36 #252036I do hope he goes to Bangor on Saturday; it would round off a wonderful weeks racing for me and would be great for Bangor now that it has to compete with the racing from Chepstow on that day.
October 6, 2009 at 03:49 #252061Sweeps Hill – John Kiely
– Impressive bumper winner at Leopardstown over Christmas. Didn’t go to Cheltenham but chased home Dunguib at Punchestown. Should pick up a few decent novice hurdles over the course of the season. Would be no surprise if he made up into a contender for the Supreme Novices.
Out tomorrow in the maiden hurdle at Tipp.
October 8, 2009 at 16:34 #252440Almost forgot Donnas Palm who did well as a novice last season and made a successful reappearance on the flat yesterday at Navan.
October 8, 2009 at 18:04 #252453Minella Four Star will win the Welsh National.
October 8, 2009 at 19:18 #252472Ok, I will close this, this evening and time permitting set it up to start on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who put up selections. I’m sure we’ll give Mark Howard a run for his money.
