Hi All
Was discussing last night favourite combinations from the past ( not necessarily the mega famous ones e.g. O’Brien and Piggott / Eddery)A few came to mind and I wonder if anyone knows where they are now e.g. on the flat
Bill O’Gorman and Tony Ives
Jeremy Hindley and Brian Taylor (RIP)
Harry Thomson Jones and Paul Cook
Guy Harwood and Tony ClarkOver the jumps
Tim Forster and Huywell Davies
I’d be interested to hear others favourite pairings
Also does anyone know what happened to Kipper Lynch, Nick Carlisle, Darryl McHargue
July 27, 2010 at 08:25 #308998Guy Harwood and Greville Starkey surely? Tony Clark was just the number 2.
Re Nicky Carlisle. Up to last year at least, he was working for the BHA as a Course Inspector
July 27, 2010 at 08:44 #309001Hi Lingfield
Thanks for the info re Carlisle.
I agree that Starkey was stable jockey and top notch at that.
I have fond memories of Tony Clark though, as talking through my pocket, I had a really good record at following his rides for Mr Harwood at the lesser meetings.
All the bestJuly 27, 2010 at 11:58 #309054July 27, 2010 at 17:54 #309164Thanks again Lingfield – most informative.
I always thought that he never got the credit he deserved over here.
I vaguely remember him riding the promising, but sadly ill fated Canadian Crown for Mr CumaniFebruary 13, 2011 at 00:47 #340373Tony Ives is currently an assistant trainer in Macau and doing pretty well this year. There’s lots of info on him on the Macau Jockey Club website…
February 13, 2011 at 09:33 #340398and the greatest of them all -imo-which bring back personal magical memories
nh – fred winter and john francombe
and on the flat dick hern/john dunlop and willie carson
February 13, 2011 at 19:11 #340530Bill O’Gorman still loves his racing and often writes interesting letters to the RP. His daughter Emma is a successful pinhooker.
Jeremy Hindley lives in South Africa.
HTJ passed away but his daughter Di Haine and grandson George still involved in racing in Newmarket.
I had lunch with Guy before Christmas and he is busy with his car dealership although he is actively supportive of his daughter Amanda Perrett’s training stable.
Nicky Carlisle is an inspector of courses for the BHA.
Tim Forster died but Hywel Davies is British rep for Gain horsefeeds and I spoke to him only last month.
February 13, 2011 at 20:19 #340547Thanks ever so much Adrian
February 13, 2011 at 21:20 #340560i appreciate it’s a lot less sexy than some, but in the mid-late 80s when i first entered into the shops, my favourites were Ray Cochrane and Luca Cumani, the culmination for me was Kayashi’s 1988 Derby win.

There are some rules:
– Stable second hand takes ride = usually negative
– Big name booked by low profile trainer = positive
– Jock drops horse and is replaced by inferior one = negative
– Jock-trainer had a quarrel but became friends again = positive
– Jock returns home from abroad = positiveThe partnership thing although basically positive may also be negative. Because the jock has by the force of the agreement to ride anything that trainer gives him.
February 16, 2011 at 12:24 #340873One of the longest lived and successful partnerships was Sir Mark Prescott / Goerge Duffield. Apparently they each kept their own space and Prescott used to say "see you next season"
