    Week 8 Update

Well I did say that Nathan, (Blackbeard I’ll av EE) was only 1 good
winner away from toppling our leader and they don’t come any better
than Hukum who rode the race of his life to take the King George VI
and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. What a finish that was, 2 incredibly brave
horses fighting out the spoils and giving every ounce. The bottom line
is that Nathan collects 59.60 points to become the new Head Honcho of
the TRF league with 411.66 points. He’s a man on a mission :yahoo:

Flat Out must be shaking his head at the horror run by Auguste Rodin
and he’s not alone. Plenty on here must have thought they had a real
shout but it wasn’t to be. Did he bleed? is there an unknown problem
yet to manifest itself. I hope he is okay, I have my doubts we may
have seen the last of him. Hard luck Flat Out but it wouldn’t surprise
me if Free Wind leaves his disappointing run in the Hardewick behind
and runs a stormer in the Lillie Langtry on Saturday.

Carlisle Are Up makes good ground to move up a couple to get his foot
on the podium. He was another with Auguste Rodin, but he had the hero
of the day in Hukum. That 59.60 points did the trick nicely and there’s
every chance of further movement as Highfield Princess is favourite
for the King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood on Friday. Nice move
    Carlisle :good:

MOM maybe had to settle for 2nd in the KG VI & QE Stake with Westover,
but absolutely no disgrace in that. He was equally responsibe for probably
the finish of the season. I hear he’s Arc bound MOM, and you couldn’t rule
him out after that display. That aside, and like Flat Out, you have every
hope of a further boost with Free Wind at Goodwood later in the week.

Jac (Dark Angels) my heart bleeds for you with horses off to foreign fields,
Godolphin off the boil and then Auguste Rodin throws in a stinker. I know
you will be more concerned about the horse but unfortunately down to 5th.
There is hope ahead this week with Caernarfon and Running Lion in the
Group 1 Nassau Stakes. That would make a difference :good:

Three Naps is another who had to suffer watching Auguste Rodin getting pulled
up and was left pointless but at least retained his 6th place. The good news
is that surely you are on a winner with Paddington in the Group 1 Sussex
Stakes. He could be the banker of the meeting.

Need I say it? Sultans of Swing had his hopes rested on Auguste Rodin, but as
we know now it just wasn’t to be. It’s water under the bridge Sultans and with
the fav for the King George at Goodwood, Highfield Princess, and one of my favs,
Coltrane, running tomorrow in the Goodwood Cup, hope springs eternal. 7th place
    retained.

Man Superstars is another staying in place at 8th, even without Auguste Rodin,
but must fancy his chances of getting some solid points at Goodwood with both
    Highfield Princess and Paddington running

Midnight makes a seismic jump from 12th to 9th (bumping Chezza down
a place to 10th, how dare he  ) Superb week Midnight with our
hero Hukum and also Midnight Mile, a winner at York on Friday. The
    59.60 and 23.20 add a very nice 82.80 points for a total of 207.13.
Top scorer and biggest mover of the week. Hats off to you :yahoo:

So the top 10 ends with Chezza’s Cheating Charlatans clinging on. It
could have been so different. Did the extra couple of strokes of the
whip get Hukum accross the line? we’ll never know. Nevertheless a
decent 14.90 points well earned and every chance with the excellent
Coltrane in the Goodwood Cup. Oisin Murphy says he won’t be setting
himself as a target for Courage Mon Ami this time. I think the placings
    could be reversed Chezza.

Not a lot of movement below that, except that I have sunk to rock
bottom. But wait, hope lies ahead at Goodwood with Marbaan in the
Lennox Stakes (to be honest I don’t hold out much hope) but Coltrane
Highfield Princess and Inspiral could be my springboard to heights I
can only dream of, well not last

A good week lies ahead and hopefully we might catch one or two at
decent prices to make Goodwood a memorable week. Oh did I mention
I won the Goodwood Competition a couple of years ago, just thought
I’d throw that in. Just shows strange things can happen.

    Week 9 Update

Despite the deluge and Goodwood being cut short there
were still enough winners to boost the scores of many
    a stable.

Nathan (Blackbeard I’ll av EEE) kept his hold on the top spot with
2 of the best of the week. Paddington maybe didn’t win in the way
we were used to seeing him, in the Sussex Stakes, but showed he didn’t
just have ability, he had courage in spade loads to get through ground
that was remeniscent of a bad day at the Somme. He kept on well to repel
the French would be boarder. A well deserves 52.65 points.

Hamish on the other hand made light work taking the King’s Plate. I
can understand why Willie Haggis pulled him out of the Ascot race,
even though it broke my heart with a 100/1 antipost, he clearly
revels in the mud and was well worth the 18.04 points which together
have Nathan comfortably leading the way (at this point) with 482.35.
Top man Nathan with 70.69 points this week :yahoo:

Carlisle Are Up continues with his step towards the top, up from 3rd
to 2nd. As a great man said, a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single
step. Well only 1 more step to make Mickey, as long as you’re going
the right way. Paddington along with Highfield Princess, winner of
the King George Qatar Stakes (22.55 points). A total of 434.95 points
keeps you in touch Mickey. They should be afraid, be very afraid, as you
are a previous winner. Best of luck :good:

A blank week for Flat Out who drops a place to 3rd. Still on the podium
though Neil. We’re all going to have them but you’re still right up there
with plenty of time climb back up. Best of luck mate

Paddington comes to the rescue for the Dark Angels and pushes Jac back
in the right direction. It might have looked more workman like for Pad,
but I think it speaks volumes for him still willing to put his heart and
soul into it with ground that had many thinking about the stables long
before the 2f out mark. A splendid 52.65 points gets you back into 4th
place Jac. Great choice Jac :good:

MOM might think himself a little unlucky remaining on the same mark and
it could have been all different if Hollie hadn’t missed the break on
Nashwa in the Nassau Stakes. On a bit of a learning curve (see what I
did there) for our Gallic friends they learned that if you expect Ryan
Moore to let you coveniently slip up the inside there’s no point crying
“manque m de respect”. Nashwa finished best of all running into 3rd place
just a length behind the winner. That was bad luck for you MOM, but a bit
of good fortune for me as I was on early at 16/1. Hmmm I’m in dangerous
Chezza territory there, “it’s all about me” Anyway, back to MOM who drops
to 5th place. As I said to Flat Out, still plenty of time to get back up
    there.

Man Superstars is always worth the watching in this competition, I think
to my recollection he has won it twice. He had a very nice double up with
Paddington and the very impressive Highfield Princess (22.55 points) who
might as well left his whip, sorry cush, in the jockeys dressing room.
There’s more to come from him MS. A nice jump of a couple of places to
    6th

Three Naps joined the Paddington club with very decent points (as above)
but I think he was desperately unlucky with The Foxes over in the Land Of
The Free and The Home Of The Brave (trump supporters discounted) in the
Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes. Doesn’t matter if it’s 5f, a mile
or 12f the Americans come out of the traps like scalded cats. It left
The Foxes with a lot to do from the back of the field. Saying that, he
came through them like a hot knife through butter in the last couple
and only went down by 1L in 2nd. He had to settle for a paltry £125,000.
Could have been different TN, but a drop of 1 place to 7th

The Sultans Of Swing, had the impressive Highfield Princess on their list
and also had Coltrane, one of my favourite horses, and I can’t blame the
horse but I definitely blame the jockeys who simply assumed when Quickthorn
set off in front that he would come back to them. By the time the penny
dropped it was way too late to close the gap and Coltrane was beaten 6L
and a shd into 3rd spot which only added a further 1.25 points. That’s
a drop back a place to 8th. Bloody jockeys Eh Sam.

Midnight joins the Paddington club and keeps hold of the 9th place with
the very popular Paddington and 3.10 points for that old warrior, Euchen
Glen who was 3rd in the Coral Summer H’cap. At 10 the old boy still gives
    it all he’s got.

FF91 Had a couple of crackers running in his stable. Firstly Kinross who
showed le Francais how you get 1st run when the rails cut away to the inside.
A typically great ride from Frankie (23.06 points) His other was none other
than, as already stated above, a very impressive Highfield Princess. Up one
place to the top 10 FF

That’s the top 10 not a great deal of movement under there although Chezza will
be spitting feathers with Coltrane who had to use a spyglass to see where Quickthorn
had gone. A real Homer Simpson Doh!! moment. If that wasn’t bad enough, Little Big
Bear has been retired. The good news for Chezza, and everone else is that the
TRANSFER WINDOW IS OPEN AT !!AM ON Wednesday 13/08/23 until 11am on Wednesday 20/08/23.

Well what can I say, it’s only the Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday, whoop whoop….groan.
Each to their own but I’d rather free fall from the Eiffel Tower, without a parachute.

At least the Curragh has a couple of decent races. The Phoenix Stakes, where I’ve already
grabbed the 9/2 with Willie Hill for Bucanero Feurte and the Phoenix Sprint Stakes where
I will be backing an olld fav Big Gossey when they open a book on that one.

That’s about it for this week so here are the league scores as per the TTTF (flat) site

The transfer window opens at 11am today and runs till next Wednesday at the same time. You can transfer two horses and they score straight after changes confirmed. I’ll be replacing little big bear and modern games as they are retired. Also got mawj in one of my other teams so will replace her. Good luck everybody.

Thanks for that Mickey, pity it’s only 2 you can transfer, I could do
    with a clear out.

It’s almost like a game of chance trying to log in Nathan, maybe they should
open a book on it. Three knocked back log in turns, should be like 3 cherries,
and an automatic pay-out of 2 quid :good:

Sorry I’ve not got the update in yet, I’ll set about it today. It’s just
been one of those weeks. To set the scene, MrsG tells me last night that
she had a check up on her spine surgery today at 9.40 am. Okay I say, I’ll
set the alarm for 6.50am and we should get the 8am ferry. All goes well,
we get to Yorkhill (think it’s called something else now, it’s just for
clinics now). Anyway we get there just before 9.40 and try to check in.
“I’m sorry MrsG I can’t find an appointment for you today”. Further checks
reveal the appointment is actually tomorrow at 9.40. Silent drive home in
    the car.

Drop MrsG at the back garden gate, and go to park the car. Come back a few
minutes later and one of the workmen working on a nearby roof was on the phone
calling an ambulance. MrsG had fallen and when you talk about a bump on the head
being like an egg, this was a double yolker. So we ended up in Dunoon Hospital A & E
for 3 hours. Fortunately other than a bloody sore head and a few aches an pains she
    was okay.

Cancelling her appointment tomorrow, if Marjory is sore today, she’ll probably be
aching tomorrow. If only, if only, if only….I don’t know how many “if onlays” I’ve
thought about that would have averted those unfortunate set of circumstances.

Some days it doesn’t pay to get out of bed.

Family always comes first. Fingers crossed. Weird how I remembered when the window was. It was modern games being retired that made me go get the date. Now do I go City of troy even though he might only run once more or maybe tower of London. So many issues with horses injured or trainers being overprotective. City of troy would go national stakes, dewhurst, and possibly futurity in the past. Probably go river tiber and ace impact.

Hello BigG – I cannot believe all of the bad luck that you and Marjorie
are going through. It puts my own problems into perspective. I really
hope that your run of misfortune ends as soon as possible.

Going to use my two transfers but it is academic the damage was done by
selecting the wrong list at the start of the competition.

Once again all the best to everyone :good: :bye: .

A little late and probably a little short but I wanted to get
    something in.

Many thanks for the messages of concern for MrsG, she’s doing
ok and stalwart that she is, we made it to the right appointment
at hospital today. Looking forward to a long lie tomorow.

    Week 10 Update

Nathan (blackbeard I’ll av EEE) hangs on to the top of the leaderboard
by the skin of his teeth after a blank week. Still there to be shot at
Nathan but facts don’t lie. 482.35 points keeps you as top dog :good:

Carlisle Are Up brought themselves right up on the heels of the leader
with Inspiral who left her bisappointing run in the Sussex stakes
when winning the Prix du…………………….Group 1 (the French never
use 1 word races, when they can use 10……literally 10  ) Anyway,
she won and the 36.40 points puts Mickey on 471.35 and within spitting
distance of Blackbeard’s immaculately coiffed beard. Well done Mickey,
on a quiet week. Still second but right in the box seat as Tommo would say :good:

Flat out, like most in here, stays on last week’s score after a blank week.
Still good enough Neil to hang onto 3rd place

MOM’s Summer Flatters 23 benefited from Inspiral’s win in (that race) France,
the 36.40 points allowed him Jump above Jac (Triptych) into 4th spot with 372.38
    points.

Like many, The Dark Angels failed to score (Running Lion will be in week 11 Jac)
as did everyone in the top 10 apart from Midnight who managed 2.10 (they all count)
when Stratum went down to Macgiloney at Kilbeggan, who looked the winner from some
    way out.

In the rest of the league Chestnut Stud moved up a couple to 13th with Inspiral,
well done to them, as did Onthebridle up to 14th. The last thing I need this week
is a nose bleed, but that’s the highest position I’ve had since the start. Is it
possible that Jamie Spencer has been recruited for my stable and is just about to
cut through the pack? No it isn’t possible, get a grip BigG.

Some competitive racing at the weekend, I always have a punt in the Great St
Wilfred at Ripon but Idon’t think that there are too many stable horses out.
There’s the Group 2 the Hungerford Stakes, not the best field I’ve seen but
Misty Grey, who has been running like a drain of late, has been dropping down
the weights to his last winning mark at Chelmsford although that’s not going to
help him here in a Group 2 but in truth there’s not a stand out in the field.
He’s going to land one of these and the 33s with Bet365 is way too big to ignore.

At the Curragh Henry Longfellow has chased away a lot of the opposition in the
Group 2 Futurity Stakes. Only 5 go to post. The other group 2 race the Alpha
Centauri Debutante Stakes and I quite fancy Snellen in that one.

So that’s it, sorry it’s late but at least it got here before the weekend.
Good luck if you are punting, be lucky :good:

    “Chezza will be spitting feathers”

    No change there, then!

Chezza, ever upbeat, is 100% confident Mrs BigG will be alright – Chezza hears that fate is even more scared of BigG than it is of Chuck Norris, so inevitably all will be well!

Best wishes from Chezza for a speedy and complete recovery!

Thanks for that Ian, Marjorie has got a bruise right down her forehead the shape

Even though chuck Norris is 5ft 71ns and 83 years old, I’d still want an 8 foot pole
