If this prize is from TRF (The Boss/David/Cormack), or even from yourself as a well-known generous man, then I thank you from the bottom of my heart for a well-thought out, very appropriate prize for winning what is about a 7000/1 to 9000/1 chance in one of the nation’s biggest handicaps. But in any case it is the taking part, not the winning or the value of the prize, that matters most.
If the prize is from a bookmaking sponsor; do you mean to say that I have applied my accumulated decades of experience and analysis acquired since the days when Doug Smith was the master of long distance races at Newmarket, juggled the data in my SQL database, taken my 30 x 100 long-range binoculars over the last three months to all the major gallops and stables which might feature a likely candidate, bought drinks for contacts in various pubs in training centres round the country, studied videos of all the relevant form races for thirty likely horses for the first three, just to win a prize that can be had, brand new hardcover, from a leading online bookseller for £4.28? For that I have to divulge that Moscato, Oriental Fox and Steve Rogers will fill the first three places, so that any Tom, Dick or Harry can put a tenner on to come away with the thick end of one hundred grand on the back of such immaculate analysis and expertise!. It’s a scandal!
