Accordingly to Willie Mullins, the Tingle Creek is the most likely destination for Un De Sceaux’s seasonal debut. Could be a case of the Champion Chase 3 months early with Sprinter Sacre, Sire De Grugy and maybe even Simonsig and Dodging Bullets all heading to Sandown.

November 23, 2015 at 17:06 #1222942Un De Sceaux could just as easily go Cork the next day which for me says being his first run of the season putting him into a tough race such as the Tingle Creek that he must be flying at home. Faugheen and Vautour both described as only being half fit or carrying condition so don’t see Mullins taking a risk with the Cork race the next day unless he is happy with his work. Sprinter may miss out with it being close to his last run they may want to spread out his races with the going likely to be on the soft side too. Might be worth siding with something at an each way price Ante post and hope the front two don’t take the race in.

November 25, 2015 at 13:51 #1223230Just new to the forum. Been hearing some runours that sprinter sacre is having problems at home has anyone heard anything.

On Sprinter Sacre
In the past he would have done a lot of work with Simonsig but this season we’ve taken it very steady as we wanted to give him as much confidence as we could. I think it’s paid off

I’ve just been on the phone to the guvnor actually and it might be that the Tingle Creek comes a bit too soon for Sprinter Sacre. It may be that we leave it a bit longer and go for something like the Desert Orchid, but nothing is set in stone though

November 26, 2015 at 10:30 #1223365As good a performance as it was at Cheltenham, the opposition he faced whilst at a good level are unlikely to get in the first four or five in QM plus he will likely be facing most of the major players in the Tingle Creek and he will be doing it at level weights.
If he swerves the Tingle Creek, it would worry me that they still think he is too fragile – we were told that he has had no hold ups coming into this season and was a completely different horse compared to the one they had all last year. If that is the case shouldn’t he be capable of running again just around three weeks later?
If we strictly apply the ‘race too soon’ reasoning and assume that he needs more than three to four weeks between his races, then if he runs in the Desert Orchid Chase over Christmas it is likely that we will not see him again until 16 March, as the Clarence House Chase is run on 23 January and the Game Spirit Chase is run on 13 February.
I don’t really buy the ‘race comes too soon’ reason unless he hasn’t taken the Cheltenham outing very well or (the more likely to me) they simply don’t want to ever run him against Simonsig (expect Henderson to convince his owners to go the Ryanair route unless Sprinter fails to make it to Cheltenham).
Personally, if everybody shows up for the QM, I don’t see Sprinter being good enough to win the race (3rd or 4th at best) and I would be more inclined to run Simonsig in the QM (his free running style better suited to a fast run 2M and switch Sprinter to the Ryanair as I think the extra 5F would suit him better now plus I think the race won’t take as much winning.
November 26, 2015 at 10:44 #1223370Unless they’ve taught Simonsig to bend his back properly, which I doubt, as they never managed to do it with Long Run, he won’t be winning any QMs.
If SS is not yet over his race, then that would be a worry, as NJH had indicated the Tingle Creek would be next, and he knows the ‘real SS’ better than anyone, so would have expected the horse to recover in good time.
Maybe they’ll just keep him for a final QM
November 26, 2015 at 10:58 #1223375Long Run still won a Gold Cup and Simonsig jumped round ok in the Arkle, so I wouldn’t be worried about his jumping anymore than any others in the race – with the pace they are likely to go in the QM, I just think it will suit his exuberant style of racing much more than going 2m5f in the Ryanair.
November 30, 2015 at 12:14 #1223861Not really surprising to see Sprinter Sacre bypassing the race. I wonder what Simonsig has to offer on his 2nd start after such a lengthy break. That private hurdle trial against Bob’s Worth told us absolutely nothing.
The PN stable form is also a concern, especially since Newbury was a complete no show for them. Must have been the worst Newbury meeting in ages for them. Let’s see what will happen on Saturday. It still is – along with the Hennessy – the best non-Cheltenham race of the year.November 30, 2015 at 13:16 #1223865Henderson said “I talked to [owner] Caroline Mould over the weekend. He’s in really, really good form but, having got him into good shape and the right place, he just doesn’t need another race at the moment and it’s as simple as that.” “We don’t need to run him again. We’re not going to learn anything! But he looks fantastic – he looked great coming into the race and he looks fantastic coming out of it.”
Hmmmm, that’s a new one, wouldn’t you learn whether he was able to mix it with the top contenders off level weights before Cheltenham? For me there wouldn’t be a better time to take on Un De Sceaux – you would be going against a horse having his first run of the season with a horse that is already race/match fit.
Is he running scared of the fight and/or keeping him and Simonsig apart? Arguably, the race will be asking bigger questions of where they are with Simonsig than it would be of Sprinter.
November 30, 2015 at 21:03 #1223904I have to say at the prices and if you knew exactly what he was doing I think Josses Hill at 16/1 is a massive price
December 1, 2015 at 14:57 #1224205Couldn’t have Josses Hill at any price until he can show me that he can jump properly – in a normal race it will cost you but in a Tingle Creek at the speed they are likely to be travelling at (especially down to those railway fences) it will be a liability.
If they can get his jumping sorted out he is a pretty talented horse but bowling up to a Tingle Creek fisrt time up off the back of his jumping issues is asking a lot (too much imho) – I would be inclined to leave him for the Peterborough Chase on Sunday, which I believe they have left him and Simonsig in.

Yes I will be surprised and hope he doesn’t run in this. Had a similar thought about poor Oscar Whiskey last year, so now I’m dreading what might happen. It probably won’t, even if he does run, but because of last year I am hoping NH pulls him out. Last year he didn’t have many options with SS and Simonsig out so probably felt obliged to run OW in a G1 chase. This year he has Simonsig entered, has already pulled SS out so hoping for the same with JH.
December 1, 2015 at 20:08 #1224293Josses Hill has a Huntingdon entry on Sunday, Peterborough Chase
December 1, 2015 at 21:20 #1224365Horses are now only ran in races to “learn something” apparently, or if they “need the run”. The spirit of racing right enough!
I think Baron Von Greenback is disappearing up his own arse personally.

December 1, 2015 at 21:25 #1224367The race might have fewer runners than we might think. It would be interesting to see if Vibrato Valtat runs. The prices indicate he does, the trainer form suggests to be careful. We’ll see, but this is the best 2m race outside the Festival. Looking forward to it.
December 2, 2015 at 17:49 #1224456UDS is out. Mullins says he’s been a bit ‘flat’ in recent days.
Following Coneygree’s Hennessy withdrawal, some of the early anticipation of such a fantastic Chasing season will be fading
