You might be right Pompete.
What is a placed horse?
Is it just restricted to paying out for betting purposes?
No promises, but I’ll see if I can knock up an alternative scoring on that basis. Need to take a piss first though.
October 17, 2009 at 20:10 #253930Are these EW 1,2 just with the Tote, or with the bookmakers as well?
October 17, 2009 at 20:15 #253932Jeez, Pompete, you’ve just got rid of most of my points!
October 17, 2009 at 20:24 #253936All horses taken the wrong course, because of a wire across it???
October 17, 2009 at 20:26 #253937G,
Less than five runners – Win Only
5 – 7 runners – 1st & 2nd
8 – 15 runners – 1st, 2nd & 3rd
16+ runners – 1st, 2nd, 3rd in Non-Handicaps & 4th in Handicaps onlyAs I say I’m only going on what I think Corm has written, so I could be wrong. Hopefully he can clarify, one way or another.
October 17, 2009 at 20:47 #253941Okay, this is the scoring if we’re only counting 1,2 in 5,6,7 runner races.
Maybe we can wangle two copies out of Timeform?
I’d have thought my original scoring will be prefered, as this is a "fun" competition, and it seems a bit weird to pick two horses in the 4 horse race I ain’t scored yet.

October 17, 2009 at 20:51 #253942Are you absolutely sure Pompete?
I don’t bet all that often, but I thought it was win only for 5 runner races (at SP) (brain going back 23 years).

Yeah
But, as I say it’s up to Corm to say what’s what.
What I’d also like to know is what happens if two people tie for first place? Do they get six months each
October 17, 2009 at 21:30 #253951Haven’t done the alternative scoring yet, but I know
Grey Desire
won that one as well, because they were leading after 5 races and got good scores in the last two. No one picked UB Careful, so I’m going to look at that horse afterwards.
Rather annoying really, as I was looking forward to getting two copies out of Timeform. (It is the only way I’d be able to get one over Rory.)

October 17, 2009 at 21:42 #253953There’s likely to be an error or two here, as I’m a bit punch-drunk.
1st only 4 or fewer runners
1st & 2nd 5, 6 or 7 runners
First 3 otherwisedeleted. I had a 32 where I should have had a 31. Correct (?) alternative scoring is in two post time.
October 17, 2009 at 21:51 #253954I’ve tried this 3 times.
Putting it in order on the spreadsheet.

October 19, 2009 at 01:42 #254182Good work with the scoring yesterday Gerald.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 19, 2009 at 23:11 #254347Am i right in thinking a 12/1 second scores the same points as an 8/1 winner ?
October 19, 2009 at 23:35 #254354Guys – sorry been away for the weekend, virtually computerless.
Yes, scoring is as per Pompete’s post – sorry, should have made that clear. Normal place rulings.
Yes Chloed, it does. Incentive to go for those bigger prices.
Finally, in the event of a draw after next Saturday the player with the biggest priced winner will be adjudged the winner, if still a draw then their next biggest priced winner and so on.
Let me know if any other queries on rules before Saturday if possible.
Thanks for scoring it Gerald. Much appreciated.
October 20, 2009 at 02:38 #254383Yes, I was waiting for the inevitable post "you’ve got such-and-such wrong in race x" but it never arrived – well, apart from Pompete’s systemic spanner.
