Very strange few days even for football standards.
Can someone explain to me why Wenger was so upset with the decision over Porto’s 2nd goal?, it was totally within the rules and something his own team have took advantage of in the past.
Why have Wolves been fined for fielding a team from players that are in their squad? Manager in my view has picked a team from players available to him, don’t see the problem with it.
Finally what are your views on Portsmouth enquiring if they can sell players with the transfer window closed? For me it should not be allowed as it would make a mockery of the rules.

February 19, 2010 at 15:16 #277834Well, I suppose WEnger could argue that the ref. got in Cambell’s way. Even so, had Arsenal scored from a similar stunt, Wenger would have defended it and praised his players quick thinking.
Agree with you re. Wolves.
Portsmouth? I can’t help thinking that the football authorities will do almost anything to avoid a premiership team folding mid-season; too much at stake. Just imagine how a team that has beaten Portsmouth would feel if they had those points deducted and it cost them the Championship or a top 4 place or caused them to be relegated. Is that a good enough reason to bend the rules? No in my opinion.February 19, 2010 at 16:39 #277846The whole Portsmouth thing is an absolute disgrace and no the Premier League and FIFA should not allow this.
I honestly would rather will be playing ‘The Peacocks’ in the Zamaretto League Division One South & West next season, than carry on like this.
Still, it’s never been boring being a Portsmouth supporter

February 19, 2010 at 16:51 #277852I don’t see how Wenger could complain about the ref getting in Campbell’s way as the defender had switched off completely with his hands on his head and his head on his knees.
I think any foul or back-pass should be made an advantage for attacking teams to decide if their want to take a quick free kick or not. It takes to long for teams to organise defensive walls then half of them need retaking with the wall’s creeping forward.

February 19, 2010 at 19:12 #277895As I saw it the ref ran 30 yards, after giving a debatable back pass decision, demanded the ball from the keeper, dropped the ball at the foot of the striker, blocked the defender then gave the goal….I think Wenger took it quite well in the circumstances.
February 19, 2010 at 22:29 #277947The reason Sol Campbell was blocked by the ref was because instead of anticipating a quick free kick he decided to go to sleep with his head between his legs, he should of got himself goal-side of the incident. You say the ref ran 30 yards to receive the ball yet Campbell didn’t move a muscle and there was not much urgency from any other defenders around.
