As many long-suffering readers of my tedious material could attest, I have always felt the Classic Trial at Sandown Park should carry the great horse’s name, not the contrived “Team” nonsense at Ascot today – “Shergar Classic Trial” has a ring to it and after all he did win it by the length of Esher High Street (ten lengths for pedants).

Anyway, in honour of the man who actually brought today’s otherwise excruciating event to life last year, I hereby declare the Ascot shenanigans should be renamed “TRF Captain Robbo Cup Day” forever after.

Do we all have to eat potatoes, wear elegant escape scarfs and cheer on team girls..😛

Btw has anyone actually seen Jermaine Jenas at the racecourse? Only the football season starts today and I expect Jermaine maybe engaged in that now for the next 9 months.

What a great appointment he was again. I know all race goers and racing enthusiast and those that maybe targetted as future attractions of the sport have already forgotten his crap advert but rest assured I will be here to bring it up on a regular basis.

I shall drink a can of Holstein pils today for captain Robbo and wish him all the best on this special day of his.

Tbh Captain Robbo has done far more to promote racing than Jermaine Jenas.

I hope Captain Robbo backed GB yesterday and got back his losses from last year.

I think he may have backed Europe as sometimes he got it spectacularly wrong. Fair play to him for putting them up though. I actually miss him to a point

    Racing’s coming home

Another of the Captain’s predictions was:

“Point Lonsdale will go down as one of the greatest horses of all time. Only a fool takes him on.”

He has only raced once this season, finishing 10th of 15 in the 2000 Guineas.

He does have some entries in the next few weeks, so there is still time for him to prove the Captain right.
