Let’s start some general banter about the meeting, in particular the opening day as the title suggests.
My bets today.
2:30 – Gladiatorus (nap)
3:45 – EvasiveI’ve been burnt horrendously in previous years on the opening day, so I’m keeping it low key. Tend to enjoy races like the Coronation, Ribblesdale, Queen’s Vase, KE VII, Hardwicke as betting propositions.
Et tu?

Royal Ascot is generally my most profitable week of the flat season, and if I can replicate the successes of the last two years I’ll be more than happy (who knows, I may actually make it to the Caribbean this time around).
2.30
Gladiatorus
, Arabian Gleam (E/W)
3.45Delegator
4.20 Fremont (E/W)
4.55 Keenes Day (E/W)
5.30Mister Manannan
Those in
bold
are main interests for the day, though I was very close to having a stupidly disproportionate bet on Fremont.

June 16, 2009 at 17:14 #234327It’s a beautiful day here in Ireland so I’ve pulled the curtains so as not to be distracted. And to quote Donn McClean’s blog today

June 16, 2009 at 17:53 #234341Stupid me
done the trend for the race and ended up backing Godolphin on Alexandros how stupid as i had Paco Boy way ahead of these
June 16, 2009 at 18:01 #234345Every year I bet at Royal Ascot, and every year I feel so inadequate and useless afterwards.
I just hope, after the first race, that the same trend doesn’t start forming!
June 16, 2009 at 18:27 #234350Too late.
June 17, 2009 at 09:40 #11781Time to get back on … the horse again.
A few races worth discussing, namely the Jersey and Sandringham.
The bets I’m considering are being blocked by my own fear for dodging favourites – in this case, choosing Vision D’Etat ahead of Tartan Bearer.
What are your plays for today?
June 17, 2009 at 10:24 #234516Never On Sunday and Axiom today for me
June 17, 2009 at 11:01 #234526Tartan Bearer is my main (and probably only) play of today.
Don’t Tell Mary and Rose Blossom are interesting fillies in the Queen Mary. I may have a small interest in one or both.

Funnily enough the only two races i’m interested in from a betting point of view are the Jersey and the Sandringham.
In the former I have ignored what Mr Dettori has chosen to ride and backed Donativum.
Can’t fault you there, Marb.
Everything about the horse, jockey bookings apart, suggests this race has been his target for a while, and with no penalty for what was essentially a gd1 win in the BC, and the disappointing Gallagher aside, he is streets in front of these.June 17, 2009 at 12:31 #234542I can’t touch a Godolphin horse with a 50-foot pole.
