I suppose its all gossip and speculation but “out of character” might be a bit of a stretch if a couple of owners (one an attractive lady…. and yes thats relevant) I know are to be believed

I suppose what Corm says is largely right but equally we are all allowed to simply state we dont like him (and his mob) much.

Agree Triptych. All trainers with large strings must become hardened to the loss of horses to some degree, but the complete disrespect shown in that photo is something I’ll always associate with Elliott now. I don’t think he should have lost his career, but that photo would be enough to deter me from entrusting a horse to his care.

    Exactly Marlingford / Triptych.

Am well aware of the disposal process Corm’, a lot of what you describe are necessities. After all, horses are heavy creatures and therefore disposing of them isn’t easy. However, sitting on a dead horse while giving a v-sign has no part in what you call the “disposal process“.

Yes, I agree with you that Elliott must have somehow become desensitised to show such a natural disrespect to his dead racehorse. Only someone desensitised with a natural disrespect would do what he did and hope he’s learnt his lesson.

For sure Mahon deserves to be warned off for good. Elliott should be allowed back, but his suspension / punishment was not long enough.

Entries for Elliott at Punchestown on Tuesday.

I’m a bit disappointed with the racecourse actually as they turned down my sponsorship offer on the grounds of extreme bad taste.

I thought the “That’s Not A Sofa, Gordy! Handicap” had a ring to it as a race title.

    Each to their own.

While I’m all for giving people a second chance it will take a long time for a lot of folk who love horses to get that image out of their mind. His return is bound to have media digging up the photo and his interviews when one of his horses wins will be extremely awkward. It will he interesting to see how forgiving folk are.

Oh Purple Reign actually won for Sneezy and races off a 9lb higher mark on Tuesday.

Of possibly more interest might be Royal Eagle, first time in a handicap off 69, and Gift Of Kings, seventh of 20 for Sneezy in an apprentices handicap and off the same mark here.

Sneezy has entries too – would be ironic if she beat one of Elliott’s.

Handicap marks are supposedly what the horse is thought to be capable of in its ideal conditions given previous form.

Is there a case for returning any lower handicap marks to what they were before Elliott’s suspension?

There’ll be a massive bad taste in the mouth if Elliott wins races (handicaps) purely because of his disrespect for a dead horse. ie In Elliott’s absence his horse has gone down the handicap and therefore only wins for Elliott because of that lower mark.

Will you not be backing any of Elliott’s runners in handicaps on moral grounds, GT?

Like Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady I take the “Morals? Can’t afford ’em, guv’nor” line.

So I will be taking a close look!

For anyone with RTV, Elliott is interviewed by Gary O’Brien at 8.30pm tonight.

Oh Purple Reign takes to the field in the leopardstown 2.30 as Gordon Elliott’s first runner today.
Ironically the jumps trainer has his ban ending first race on the flat.
He also has a reserve in a race at the venue.
As has been mentioned on this thread, several horses from his yard will be running off lower marks on his return and he has been busy at the sales rebuilding his stable.

Just watched the interview. To be fair, Elliott seemed contrite. But unless I misunderstood him, he seemed to be bitter with the British authorities for not allowing him to have runners at Cheltenham. It shows an extraordinary lack of understanding if he really thought that was going to happen.

I think Gary O’Brien is a good broadcaster but he was clearly only allowed to ask one question at a time with no follow up questions. A political interviewer would have put Elliott on the spot more.

Having said that, I think the atmosphere was a little on the frosty side. I expect O’Brien is still unhappy with Elliott, like how a lot of people in racing are still less than impressed with his conduct.

Thank God he’s actually back today – maybe the Racing Sympathy Channel might reduce his airtime and move on.

Anyway, back his runners plenty short enough today, including one Sneezy actually managed to win with.

Interesting the Kim Bailey episode has quietly been brushed under the carpet….If that was Ireland…well……

I was just coming here to say that, jackh. I’m not quite sure what bitterness smells like but there’s a fierce stink to Britain at the moment.
