I hope everyone is watching this and getting into the spirit of it!
Let’s hear those terrace chants: “Wales & The West Til I die!”
I always thought the Welsh and the West hated each other, actually, but what do I know?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 27, 2023 at 18:32 #1656808July 28, 2023 at 08:47 #1656851As a race meeting, Great Yarmouth last night was alright – probably one of the more competitive midweek cards.
It’s the whole “team” premise and nauseating hype that turns my stomach.
And, tbh, even without all that, the racing at Leopardstown would still have had the edge.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 28, 2023 at 10:44 #1656856I didn’t attend the meeting last night , but decided I would give it a try on Sky , and tried to do so with an open mind.
The plusses (and there were few) , were that the prizemoney semmed to be okay , particularly in one race , and the admission prices were apparently reduced.
The rest of it was utterly atrocious.
The whole concept of team racing is contrived nonsense , with certain teams not even represented in some races. This was emphasised still further when Hayley Turner was interviewed and even admitted to not knowing who her team mates were.
The presenters tried their best to try and promote this rubbish , but their “happy clapper” style simpy seemed to make the whole thing worse. This was topped off by some having to wear promotional baseball caps that presumably related to the “teams” involved , and the constant fawning over Dettori , in has capacity as some form of player / captain.
I dislike the Shergar Cup , but racing has somehow managed to come up with something much , much worse.July 28, 2023 at 11:00 #1656857I don’t mind the Shergar Cup. It is a one off event on what is otherwise a quiet Saturday in between Goodwood and York. It also is a chance to see a few different jockeys. It is nothing special but the event works well enough.
The Racing League is different. Trying to make a team event stretch out over 6 weeks does not work, made worse by the lack of clarity about who is on what team. No one is interested.
The fact that the SSR crowd constantly have to tell us how brilliant it is shows they have absolutely no confidence in the product. It would sell itself if it was any good. The same applies to The Hundred in cricket.
I believe one Racing League fixture at Doncaster only attracted a crowd of about 2,000. That is pitiful for a big track.
Aside from the contrived team nonsense, there is no getting away from the fact that the racing is moderate. Trying to tart it up as something better does not fool anyone.
Experienced racegoers are not taken in by the hype and the event does not appear to be generating interest amongst young people or non-racegoers, so who exactly is it for?
July 28, 2023 at 11:51 #1656861Shergar Cup could well do without that. Racing tries to promote that all jockeys are equal no matter what their gender, Holly Doyle is a jockey not a female jockey so what do we have at the Shergar Cup, a ladies team.
The more I know the less I understand.
July 28, 2023 at 15:00 #1656868The Doncaster Racing League meeting last year, the official crowd figure was 1,632 – that was on a Thursday evening in August. It was the second smallest crowd for a flat meeting there all year – a Friday afternoon card in April got 1,615.
They missed a treat, with plenty of easy races. The Placepot only paid £633.
August 8, 2023 at 14:47 #1659131If the brains behind The Racing League staged a football match I’m not sure they’d ever get 22 players on the pitch this season – Chepstow Thursday also undersubscribed.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 8, 2023 at 15:40 #1659134Third race at Chepstow on Thursday, 6F 0-85 handicap, attracted 40 entries.
Wales and West team provided 11 of those 40 entries, but only two can represent the team, the other nine just have to like it or lump it.
This is what it says on the Racing League website about how the two are chosen from the eleven:
“Final decision as to which horses are selected to represent the team will rest with the team manager”
Wales and West team manager is Jamie Osborne. And one of the two horses he has selected for this race is trained by Jamie Osborne. Team managers also get to decide which of his team jockeys will ride each horse – again here’s what it says on the RL website:
“Jockey selection will be determined by the team manager rather than trainer/owner”
Having got this far, are you surpised that the horse trained by Jamie Osborne, will be ridden by Saffie Osborne.
The horse is a 3yo called, appropriately, Executive Decision and she carries a 6lb penalty for winning a 0-95 race at Goodwood last Tuesday. Bookies first show has her as the 4/1 fav. The other horse selected for Team Wales and West is on offer at 25/1.
The polite word that comes to mind is travesty, but ruder ones are available.
August 8, 2023 at 17:35 #1659140Executive Decision love it.
The more I know the less I understand.
August 8, 2023 at 17:54 #1659141What a farce. How can the BHA allow it?
August 10, 2023 at 16:38 #1659289I must go to Chepstow tonight to support my adopted team in the Racing League.
Said no one ever.

Whats the crack with Scotland?
Sack the boardCharles Darwin to conquer the World
August 10, 2023 at 16:47 #1659291Scotland 152 points behind. Yes, they have runs in hand but these horses are not machines, would rather have the points in the bag

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
August 10, 2023 at 17:02 #1659293Looking at the colours of the racecard runners at Chepstow, if Scotland are in the light blue? It looks like they are short of runners, again..
Someone tell Paul Mulrennan to let the handbrake off, they are going to get relegated into the Donkey beach racing league if they don’t improve sharpCharles Darwin to conquer the World
August 10, 2023 at 17:46 #1659299First two meetings at Yarmoiuth and Chepstow. Racing League doesn’t pay transport costs.
But let’s concentrate on important matters – Saffie has five good rides this evening thanks to Daddy, all at 7/1 or less.
August 10, 2023 at 18:17 #1659301Racing has been delayed 😃
