Seems likely and meeting on Monday. I didn’t rejoin post covid but they didn’t exactly pester me too

Was very decent for their specials days at ascot etc but the money saving vouchers were a bit outdated in these pre booking discount times

    A shame though.

    Was anyone a member???

Suspect the lack of response was telling!

I was a member back in my student days. I still have a badge. Gave it up when I started work and couldn’t go to the races much. Sorry that it’s going, though must admit I assumed that it had folded years ago.

I am still a member for what it’s worth.

Something much more worthwhile for market research to have looked into
I think the normal racegoer gets far too much overlooked with the obsession of “new people”

I consider myself the world’s leading recluse, so the whole concept of Club membership of any sort is anathema to me.

However, I do vaguely recall the Daily Mirror Racing Club back in the day – with its book of discount tickets – being so welcoming it even accepted Conservative voters as members!

    Nathan

Why on earth would they? What’s the point of aiming marketing at a confirmed client base?

Right through this marketing chat on here it has been looked through the prism of what posters want for themselves (free tickets! Vouchers! Free chips!)

That’s not quite how it works

The club should have modernised or be replaced by something more accessible. Discounts should have been applied to advance bookings and not through little voucher books

The race days were excellent and should be extended

This perhaps should be taken on by something like the JC as a way to maintain and encourage the current audience

I was a member when it was run by Tony Fairbairn & Louise Gold. They had a number of owners groups and actually owned the horses not like recently when they have only leased them. I joined the owners groups a few times, we owned 5 horses one year when the group was sponsored by Racecall and some of the horses had Racecall in their name. eg Call Racecall, Racecall Gold Card (2nd in the Aurelius Hurdle at Ascot)
It was good fun but I guess the club has run it’s course these days.

Because I believe you have far more chance attracting “new people” via those that are already interested in the sport than trying to get those that are not interested well interested.
For example I very much doubt that my step son would have taken any interest about racing if I had not taken the time to explain the game to him.
Keep those already loyal to the sport happy and word of mouth will bring in more custom via friends etc

And of course “word of mouth” in 2022 also incorporates “image of Instagram.”

That social media platform is full of Peaky Blinders wannabes who have already discovered the Sport Of Kings and are busy uploading images of themselves “giving it large” at the races before the equally obligatory “Rate My Steak” images after racing as the winnings (nobody ever loses on Instagram) are turned into food.

And their other halves are equally busy uploading the girls Prosecco-fuelled day/night out at the races photos too.

    You are getting confused

Firstly you say it should be aimed at racegoers and then at those with “an interest in the sport”

The latter isn’t always the former of course

Either way, they would have done their actual research and have the stats. we haven’t so they have a far better idea of the target audience than we do. Just have to accept and live with that

I’m constantly confusing myself Clive, nothing new
Good luck to the research team. Not sure where or how they get their stats from but they never asked me

Yeats, I was also a member in the Tony Fairbairn & Louise Gold era – and an “owner” of some of the pre-lease horses. They organised some good trips too. I went to Sandringham stud and met Bustino & Shirley Heights.
