From an armchair viewer’s perspective, at least…

    Only three meetings.

Regular ten minute intervals throughout the day.

Have the race planners actually done a good job, for once?

As an added bonus, there’s no Irish racing to get in the way (I preferred it when it was always on a Sunday).

Is it premierisation a week early?

It is just good luck with the Irish fixtures. After 4 days at Leopardstown and Limerick, they probably wanted a blank day before the New Year meetings.

I think the meeting at Newbury is the last on RTV. From January, the track will be on SSR.

Perfect Saturday or not, it is, as CAS rightly infers, “The Shape Of Things To Come.”

Taunton entries down 32% from 2022
    Haydock 39%
    Newbury 11%

The more I know the less I understand.

The perfect Saturday has just been ruined: Angus McNae is back with his Race IQ rubbish.

Interesting behind Nick & Megan seeing all the people being turned away from the premier enclosure have not paid the extra. “Come racing”

Speaking of premierisation has anyone seen the entry numbers for New Years Day at Cheltenham? Not a great start

I expect McNae will tell us Hewick ran the last furlong of the King George faster than either Allaho and Bravemansgame.

They don’t do a very good job of contextualising the data on Racing TV its like here are the sectionals, read them out, no idea what that means other than this horse was quicker than this one at this stage. No reference to pars or other races. I recall when I was still on Twitter before Musk got hold of it and rebranded it that Simon Rowlands tore them to pieces once over their use of sectionals.

Speaking as an off-course punter, who seldom goes racing at all and definitely not on a Saturday, if this is what Premierisation is going to be like – three main cards, a race every ten minutes – then it suits me well.

But that’s a selfish view and racegoers seeing their local meeting reduced to a brunch or late afternoon/twilight affair suffer, as do the racecourses trying to run a business who want to stage a coveted Saturday card at prime Saturday social hours.

It’s likely to end up AW for breakfast, turf for lunch and afternoon tea and AW again for dinner/supper – certainly at this time of year.

No sign of any “Premierisation” with regard to the race times on Monday. With 6 meetings on RTV there will be split screens all over the place.

....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.

There is deliberately no Irish racing ever scheduled for the 30th as it’s kept blank in case of one of the four days is postponed at Leopardstown and Limerick, it can move into the 30th, once raceable. Dromahane also always has a point-to-point on the 30th.

Thanks, Michael. That’s something of which I was not aware.
