Looks like it’s reared it’s head again
The clerk watered haydock on Tuesday despite bits of rain in the forecast for every day up to Saturdays meeting
You can’t make it up
To do this at haydock, a track that takes rain notoriously poorly just seems plain stupid
May 23, 2024 at 11:36 #1695223If Haydock anywhere like.us it be swimming. We had that much rain in over 24hours and more to come

May 23, 2024 at 11:44 #1695224I live not too far away from Haydock. The rain here yesterday was the heaviest for months and it is still raining, albeit less heavily, now.
May 23, 2024 at 11:46 #1695225Worth posting this video again of Sir Mark Prescott talking about watering and why it is done:
May 23, 2024 at 12:47 #1695236Yesterday they were worried Saturday’s card would fall victim to the rain.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 24, 2024 at 11:37 #1695357Only the 23 non runners at Haydock, so far…
May 25, 2024 at 11:16 #1695506The CoC needs firing, or more relatively, throwing into the nearest river/ canal. Completely brainless actions, when anybody with an interest in the weather knew we were going to get a significant amount of precipitation. And so it turned out; it started on Tuesday evening, and hardly stopped until Thursday
morning….It really beggars belief……
May 27, 2024 at 00:13 #1695742Did the new Clerk at Haydock learn his trade under Mr Tellwrong by any chance?
Value Is EverythingMay 27, 2024 at 08:19 #1695753The rain in mid week was so heavy, it triggered off the flood warning system which was recently installed in my neighbourhood after a tragic incident last August.
With that volume of rain (which was forecasted), it is extraordinary how anyone at Haydock could have thought it necessary to water.
The authorities, so quick to condemn trainers and jockeys for misdemeanors, should be asking the Clerk what he was doing.
May 27, 2024 at 09:23 #1695760They should also be demanding to see whether the clerk or his friends / associates backed soft ground horses ante-post.
Now I am not saying he did, but apparently stupid decisions like this means it is a possibility.
Value Is EverythingJune 8, 2024 at 11:22 #1697283Oli Bell & Co this morning were sympathizing with the Haydock clerk for this week’s meeting, as the forecast rain failed to materialise earlier in the week, so he decided not to water. As the ground was only good to firm on Thursday he shouldn’t have been watering with or without rain. The directive is supposed to be, water to produce good to firm.
June 8, 2024 at 11:44 #1697293I am at my parents house, only a very short distance from Haydock. It lashed it down with rain last night. There was further rain this morning but the weather is good now. I will be very surprised if Haydock missed all the rain.
June 8, 2024 at 16:59 #1697378Fake news I’m afraid from Oli Bell.
The clerk when interviewed this afternoon said they never had any intention of watering and it did rain on Tuesday.
The complete opposite of what Oli said this morning.June 8, 2024 at 17:00 #1697379It didn’t miss the rain.
Looked Good-firm yesterday.
Good todayValue Is EverythingJune 15, 2024 at 14:17 #1697984Heaven forbid we start a flat meeting in summer on straight up good to firm ground
June 15, 2024 at 16:11 #1698010Lets hope they don’t ruin the meeting by getting this wrong. Sandown today started on good-firm having been watered, changed to good-soft after 1 race, shows how quickly it can change.
June 16, 2024 at 11:11 #1698056Forced to water??? Who is forcing him to water……he’s meant to be the CotC…..They should only water to ease the ground if it’s rock hard; it’s summer flat racing……
We’re going to lose fast ground horses if this carries on. Racing should be for all types – that was always its strength.
