I have to say I agree with the gist of your comments Mick.
Very cliquey today, fuelled by Nick Luck’s in-joke banter, a little section around Spencer and Cattermole’s Jeremy Noseda socialising (or otherwise) being particularly alienating for the majority of viewers I’d have thought.
The pity of it is they all know their stuff but are made to look lightweight by the show’s new direction.
It’s becoming racing’s version of Loose Women (only with men)!
What has Mike Cattermole let himself in for in the Q’s and A’s?
Value Is EverythingJune 19, 2010 at 09:06 #301889Emma Spencer annoys me too. What does she bring to the party??………..absolutely nothing!!
A pretty face and ……
No idea of form.
YM,
Surely the reason why you are seeing Emma, Tom, Nick etc. because they are looking for new, younger people.
Yet you want to bring back McCrirrick and Francome?
They want educated people. What’s wrong with university?
If Lord Snooty knows his stuff, then he should be there.Personally, I don’t think young people want to see Cattermole and Spencer flirting, Luck taunting Lee and then comparing himself to looking like a politician.
I thought when the election was over Luck and his similarly annoying mate from ladbrokes exchanging public school banter saying they look like George and David would finally be over. But it seems not..WHO CARES!
I like Mr Cattermoles presenting as he is refreshing. But I prefer him in the role of roving reporter, not tipster. Emma is very good at the similar role. I do like her but I don’t see the point of her tipping horses. They need a decent tipster and someone with a solid form perspective who isn’t afraid to give a few winners!
I feel McGrath’s analytical skills are pretty good, but whenever he has a horse running, he says nothing whatsoever. I also like Tanya for this. She has a real feel for the markets, knows what she is talking about and sticks to her convictions about big priced horses who sometimes go in. At the moment, if they aren’t in the first three in the betting its as though they aren’t running.
GT, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with people that know their stuff but I would like them to talk about racing, rather than taunting co presenters as Himself mentioned. Young people associate racing with McCririck. Best thing they could do, is get a young flamboyant presenter such as Chappers to present, as I find him funny and on the same level of analytical skills as Cattermole and Luck.
June 19, 2010 at 09:11 #301891Just to say quickly, I like Mr Cattermole and I think that he is a great commentator and reporter. I just think they aren’t using his skills as well as they could.
I also think the same of Mrs Spencer. They make a good team when presenting during the racing, just not in the morning.
I have also just realised I have completely contradicted myself with the Chappers comment. Maybe I am asking for too much.
June 19, 2010 at 09:39 #301896Just to say quickly, I like Mr Cattermole and I think that he is a great commentator
You started quite well Young Mick but are starting to lose all credibility quite quickly with your "Mike Cattermole is a great commentator" and they need to get a "young flamboyant presnter such as chappers" and that you think he is funny. About as funny as a hole in the head.
I quite like the thought of Nick Luck treating Tom Lee as his "fag" though, wish I’d seen that.
June 19, 2010 at 09:43 #301898I will refuse to watch the Morning Line with their weak 3rd grade presenters. I’m sorry but for all those people who slag Thommo, Down and MrCririck off at least they were better than this drivel. Why oh why are they not featuring the older presenters now? If they are trying to make it a ‘younger’ team for younger presenters it’s not working. I’m 25, which i think is still young ha (or youngish ha) and i would still much rather watch the old style show. It’s what got me into racing seeing the Morning Line Saturday mornings before i went to work. The banter was good and there was real passion about horses and real debates. It really caught me and from there got into racing.
Fair enough they will need to replace older members of their team, but why can’t they have the likes of Lydia Hislop, Alex Quinn, Hugh Taylor even and other, better presenters and racing knowledgable people. I actually like the guy Stewart Machin but Spencer and Cattermole don’t really deserve to be front runners for the big meetings. They don’t seem to have that passion and seemingly only look up the form for the meetings on that particular day. I may well be wrong but it’s what comes across. Shame on whoever is producing C4 Racing at the moment. BRING BACK TOMMO!!June 19, 2010 at 10:06 #301911Just to say about Mike Cattermole; if you’ve ever taken him on in a quiz, you’d realise he does know racing back to front.
Don’t think he’d ever claim to be a great tipster. Fact is most of the public want to hear a tip from all presenters (may be not us).
In my opinion the Morning Line would do better if they got form experts on to talk about the racing. This is a pre-race talk show after all.
Get Mellish, Nevison, Taylor, Cunningham and Freemantle on, all held together by Hislop. And let the "presenting" team do their stuff in the afternoon.

Value Is EverythingJune 19, 2010 at 10:17 #301914To be quite honest, i only watch it to see Emma Spencer, everyone else tends to get ignored when she is on
June 19, 2010 at 10:27 #301916I’d be interested in interviews with trainers, but that would suit a radio programme better than a TV one.
June 19, 2010 at 10:28 #301917Have to agree with general opinion of morning line they looked like a half hearted bunch this morning, and interestingly none of them would gird there loins and actually suggest to Eddie Ahearn he had ridden a shocker on berling on thursday.

Totally agree – once again dragging the forum into the gutter.
It is small wonder some people don’t bother posting any more.

Why is it? I appreciate that itavinappropriate to the thread but it’s a rumour that "some" people may find interesting? I’m not particuarly interested in Reading you’re
threads about Ascot’s going everyday to be honest.June 19, 2010 at 10:59 #301937I can’t? I tried fella.
It is very simple – you go to your post, click the edit button.
Highlight the text and replace with "I apologise for writing irrelevant rubbish"
Hope that helps?
June 19, 2010 at 11:00 #301938I’ve deleted it – Matthew, you should be able to edit your posts, if you’re not sure how PM me and I’ll explain, and can you please stop posting that type of thing.
I would guess that NOBODY finds that type of inane tittle tattle interesting whereas there are plenty of us who are very interested in what the ground is at Ascot.
