One of my all time favourite Cheltenham moments Gord, 16’s was a gift. As easy a winner as you’ll ever see in a race like that at The Festival, happy happy days. Makes all those dark moments when things don’t go according to plan, seem not as bad after all.

“Its that old devil called love again” TAPK’s listening to a bit of Alison Moyet as he watches another one of those legendary coups again. This time its Junior a horse I was bullish about winning the 2011 Kim Muir,so much I put him up on here free of charge at 16/1,he ran away with it at 100/30 fav…”That old Devil called Love”.

Your music taste is great. I just listened to Alison Moyet’s “Windmills of your mind”. Another great song you don’t seem to get nowadays.

I always listen to music as I study ‘Ruby’.Gotta say Adele is something special too.Mind you I’m off to see the worlds greatest band a week on Monday…’The Stranglers’ at Rock city.I’m listening to ‘No more Heroes’ now as I confirm that Pipes Ballynagour 38’s and Jonjos Johns Spirit 13’s have been targeted for the ‘Plate’ a race they contested 2 years ago, closely matched at the weights this year and both have Grade 1 form.

Adele is today’s Alison Moyet imo.

I want to ask you something: I like your confidence about the Mullins horses, especially when you expect them to win at least 10 races at the Festival, but aren’t you afraid of any dark horses that have been kept fresh for Cheltenham and are less exposed than the ones with already 3-4 runs under their belts this winter?

I still think that WP will win by far the most races, but I’m more interested in horses like Special Tiara, Sizing John, Holywell or even that Ballynagour. Horses that you can back EW at double figure odds.
Apart from that I like your call about Black Hercules, but I’m not on and I won’t jump on the train at 7/2 now.

It’s always a pleasure to read from you, ATPK.

I dont know how long you have read my waffle on here Ruby but as long as night turns day TAPK returns a profit at Cheltenham, most of my previous winners have been relatively ‘Dark’ horses, they have to be for me to get the ridiculously huge prices I get.I dont fear the opposition as much as I fear mine falling or just being robbed…MTOY in the ‘Supreme’!My greatest achievement at Cheltenham was putting Albertas Run up on here for his first Ryanair at 95’s on the machine, everyone thought he’d go for the Gold cup but he was a horse who had a bit of speed who needed Good ground and I just kept throwing tenners on him at 75’s,50’s,34’s,all the way down.Victories like that are rare but I have them time and time again,I never tire of it.Of course the down side to Ante-Post betting is when one of yours is taken out at the last minute,I can handle that but it hurts. There’s only one horse who would hurt this year and thats Cue Card..(Joes (Steeplechasing)Horse).I’ve got him at good double figure prices and a King george/Gold Cup double. If he doesn’t turn up that will hurt as he will win no question about it.A dark horse this year though could be Bleu et Rouge, whatever race he runs in he wins.I might sound bullish Ruby but if you dont go into battle with a 100% confidence you lose.Good luck,we’ll need it pal.

I like your “waffle” and I like the fact that you can spot the right dark horse for the right race. As for Albertas Run, I backed him on the day just at 14/1, but unfortunately I was too slow to recognize his Ryanair potential ante-post in order to make a better profit. That’s a huge advantage you have compared to me or others and that’s why I enjoy reading your threads.
I am on Cue Card myself at around 50/1 for the KG-GC double. My only worry is not the race itself, but the way to get there. Once he lines up for the race, I’m much more relaxed and I think no matter what Willie throws at him, he will know the right answers.
Good luck to you, too and keep on posting mate!

    Darren,I hope yo reading this??
Day 3…JLT I’ve lost Ante-Post on this I feel already as Shaneshill 12/1 dissapointed me big time at Doncaster. If More of that runs he’s a good thing.
Pertemps final, I’m convinced this is a plot race for JP McManus but I dont think the fav ‘Cup Final’ is the one,I like both If in doubt 16/1 and Box Office 12/1 the latter particularly on Good ground.
Ryanair,Always had a soft spot for Vibrato Valtat taken 34’s on the machine for this fellow and backed him 20/1 down.’Valseur Lido’ would be my danger.
World hurdle. This ones all about Saphir du rheu 33/1 down,I think the red-hot fav will get beat on faster ground and my fellow will finally show why he’s so highly regarded at home.
The Plate Best handicapped horse of the meeting runs in this and I’m on at 16/1 down.Johns Spirit on good ground will show why Jonjo is a master at playing the system.Ballynagour at 33/1 with hills is over-priced too for a previous winner. If the ground came up soft Taquin du seuil would be my confident choice..Ground is crucial here.
Mares Nov hrdle. Cant go past Limini Evs Another winner for Willie methinks!
Kim Muir TAPK has a phenomenal record in this and this years winner is Upswing 12/1 simple as that.
Darren,I do hope this helps I do I do!

Anyone wanting a thrill for 4 days without having to endure the nightmare of which horse runs where in the world of Willie Mullins should take the Willie Mullins to have 10 winners or more at 5/2.(Now 5/1 that bet!) At least that way we are cheering everything he runs and not worrying about whether the likes of my banker Black Hercules goes ‘down in trip or up in trip or stays at the same trip (3m)’ as Danny Mullins suggested yesterday.Of course TAPK has taken the 8/1 about this horse winning any race at the festival because thats what I do.

Willie willie.he does this every year, plays musical chairs with his horses targets but he’ll have to try harder to catch TAPK out.My festival banker Black Hercules looks like going for the JLT now and all I can say to that is……Bring it on,not that I think he’s the good thing like I did the 4 miler but Willie knows best and I know Willie.TAPK has actually backed the horse at 70’s for the JLT but I aint going to kid myself he can beat More of that over 21/2m…Or maybe I am! Mind you he’s out to 14’s for the 4 miler so it might be time to take some more of that…Flashbacks of Sir des Champs all over again.

Arrogant? Think of me as a middleweight Boxer psyching himself up to defend his world title ‘Manchester’.The Cheltenham festival is the best week of the year and I spend all year preparing for it,the closer it gets the more focused I become.Let your guard slip and you will get knocked out, particularly if you play in every race. This years meeting is no different to any other apart from the fact Willie Mullins has an incredible strength in depth to his team.He is doing exactly what I predicted and thats why I have backed his army as a whole rather than trying to back everyone of his horses for particular targets because he’ll quite happily lead us up the Garden path.Incredibly horses like A Toi Phil,Sir des Champs,Boston bob,Petit Mouchoir,A Bleu Rouge,Tell us More dont even get a mention and they are all players in the right race.

Day 4..Triumph hurdle I always like one of Nickys for this and Protek des flos 20/1 ticks my boxes.
County hurdle I like All Yours 20/1 for this he caught my eye at last years festival.Albert Bartlett My Ante-Post bet would appear to have gone down the drain at Doncaster!Up for Review 12/1 looks like next years 4 miler to me so Willie will run him in the JLT then.
Gold cup…Potentially the best Gold cup for years and one of the first 5 in the betting will win it.I just hope Willie has had his 10 winners by this point so I can cheer home Cue Card. Normally I have ran the race in my head umpteen times over but this year I expect the 2 stayers ‘Don Poli’ and ‘Don Cossack’ to be staying on up the hill,I expect both ‘Vautour’ and ‘Cue Card’ to have quickened past them but ‘Djakadam’ wont be shaken off. Some race but ‘Cue Card’ looks like he’s got the blend of speed/stamina needed to deliver.Foxhunters.Cant go past On the Fringe 5/2 here.Martin Pipe conditionals.I like Qualando 12/1 for this,he too has good Cheltenham form and thats what matters here.Grand annual Ch..All about Eastlake 16/1 here,he deserves this, should have beat ‘Next Sensation’ last year.

I regularly go to Cheltenham Ben but never for the festival,I spend the whole week sat in front of my TV/Computer betting/Laying in running etc.I’m not a fan of this Cash-Out offer either unless you have a superfast broadband feed.Do you think Willie will run Valseur Lido in the Ryanair?

I think so yes, think he’ll probably be more than capable of winning it too. I guess it all depends on how good Ruby is at persuading Rich to send Vautour to the Ryanair, if Vautour goes Ryanair then I reckon Valseur Lido goes Gold Cup with Willie trying for the tricast.

My instinct tells me Vautour in the Gold Cup where he’s been targeted all season, he front ran in the King George and Mullins/Rich said pre-race that he still was a bit ‘fat’ and not 100% fit, add in the extra fitness and I can see him having a great chance of staying the Gold Cup trip, at least enough of a chance for it to be worth trying.

What are your thoughts on it?

Just seen the Min/Douvan/Un De Sceaux/Vroom Vroom Mag (mares hurdle) is around 9/1 for the first day 4-fold. Nice 100 on that to return a grand seems too easy! Only risk in that bet I see is Min in the Supreme and for me that’s an easy cover with Yorkhill if he runs.

I don’t blame you for watching it infront of the tv! Much more relaxing than being swarmed by 60,000 Irish all claiming to be Willies mate with inside info. But I do love the sound of that roar when one of his gets up (Douvan last year had to be the highlight for me) and though gutting, the groan from the crowd when Annie fell was something I’ve never felt before and something I’ll never forget, been to too many sporting events to name from NFL to footy to boxing but I’ve never experienced a crowd sound so disappointed. When at a footie match and the away team scores it goes mostly silent, but when Annie fell it was literally tens of thousands of people going “OHHHH NOO” quite a remarkable site and never had losing money been so acoustic.

Would have been handy had I been in your shoes in that instance, laying the mare as she came round the final bend. But knowing me I’d have let the jolly ride!
