I can’t have that Blythe Knight needed the run and we didn’t… if BK was going to beat Katchit anywhere it would’ve been at Wincanton where his flat speed will have been a massive advantage for him
I watched Katchit on his final workout yesterday and he looks fabulous – the yard think he’s in better shape than he was for the Kingwell and he was much better then than earlier in the season. Alan King felt the ground was good to firm when he walked it and that’s a bid relief cos we don’t wnat it getting soft tomorrow
Im not convinced that SE was any more impressive in the AIG than the other key protaganists have shown this year and it looks very open…
Here’s what I hope….
Sizing Europe’s jumping is bad
Osana’s easy lead in the Bula did flatter him
Sublimity wasn’t fat at the Bula and that was as good as he is
Harchibald won’t get the hill
the ground stays good
… and Katchit improves 10lbs and wins easilyNot much to hope for
I do think the winner will come from these 5, I think we have a bigger chance than perhaps we’re being given and yet like everyone else fear there may be one too good on the day (but that’s what we thought going in to the Triumph last year)
March 9, 2008 at 18:43 #149291I dont think im mad at all. Bunny hoppers do not win champion hurdles. My arguement seems very logical to me. This horse is not a fluent, low, fast hurdler whatever way you look at it. There is no way he is 1/2 stone clear of everything else, but if you believe that then you have to back him.
I will be very surprised if the winner does not come from Osana or Sublimity and if the price is short enough I may even have a little place lay of Sizing Europe just as a little speculative bonus.
Whether he bunny hops gives them plenty light baloons them or whatever does it matter when the horse has such a high cruising speed.
We know he kicked Hardy Eustace into touch in a canter and he did it in a full 8 seconds faster than Hardy Eustace won in the previous year. Both races were run on soft ground and HE beat CH winner Brave Inca in his race………..I am not a follower of times but that would tell even the simplest mind that was no fluke when SE won the AIG.
Tom Scu failed to pick out any horse that he regards as an outstanding mount just 1 hour ago and said of Osana he is very well and should run well…..not exactly over the moon about his chances…..I have never thought the Greatwood was any sort of guide to the CH………Katchit obviously not at his best Sublimity big as a bull…..no way can I see him take this field of their feet let alone force the big horse into errors………I think Sizing Europe and katchit are the two horses to beat,,,,,,,,,,SE because he oozes class and Katchit because i think Alan King has trained him to the minute for this…..he has aterrfic record at the course as well………Sublimity is a mystery to me a friend who is intio times reckons HE took about 40 seconds to get between the 2nd last and the winning post which was 4 seconds longer thn he took when he won…….that’s a lot of lengths..as I say Lay him if you like mate but he’s a worthy fav to me…….I will say there are alot of unknown factors in the race
1. How fit has Katchit been this year
2. How good is Catch Me
3. Was Sublimity win a fluke or is he something special
4. How good is Osana
5. Has Afsoun improved since last year and will he be bettier suited by a stronger gallop
6. Will anything take Harchibald off the bridle
Plenty reasons to be laying the horse but a lot of if’s can be attached to them…..There was no If’s about SE in the AIG.
March 9, 2008 at 18:43 #149292Harchibald’s best chance for 2008 has been and gone.
Crufts has just ended.

March 9, 2008 at 18:44 #149294March 9, 2008 at 19:07 #149298A bit harsh, AP. Thirteen wins from thirty nine career starts isn’t a bad strike rate at all.
Mind you, your ante-post tip for Catch Me on here when he was 33s is looking very decent now. If only you were prepared to bet ante-post!
March 9, 2008 at 19:10 #149300Gus he is also 2 from 2 when contesting a hurdle after a flat run
It appears that whatever was ailing him last season and beyond is now well and truly behind him.
March 9, 2008 at 19:19 #149305Fist, its probably not a great guide to compare the bula/boylesports (its a shame they didnt keep the original name) and the champion hurdle because the courses are so different. The new course has a very long run in.
Having said that Sublimity stopped very quickly on the run to the last at in December. The argument that he doesnt come up the hill too strong is queit valid but it appears to me that in both the Supreme novices and champion hurdle that he virtually stays on one paced rather then fade rapidly like he did in the boylesports.
I agree fist tho that there are so many unknowns in this race, particularly with this being very much a new bunch of 2 milers and the fact that we rarely see Sublimity
March 9, 2008 at 19:20 #149306Fists, do poor jumpers of hurdles win the Champion Hurdle?

March 9, 2008 at 19:25 #149308I see Betfair have suspended the Champion Hurdle market – anyone know why?
March 9, 2008 at 19:26 #149309had a tiny each way on Blythe Knight when I went to put my bet on Catch Me; spoke to someone the other day who said he thought BK was quite tenderly ridden last time, and 33/1 seemed a nice ew; would kick myself if he did do well as I intended to back John Quinn’s horses all season…there was a mention of a virus at Sizing Europes stable on another board; is this an old rumour?
If its only a rumour it wouldn’t make an ounce of difference if it’s old or new mate
John Quinn had BK pretty much fit behind Katchit but did say he would come on for the race…….He wouldn’t want the ground to be on the dry side of good so that’s a worry he reckons just a touch on the soft side of good is what he really needs……if we end up with soft ground he won’t run him he will wait for Fairhouse or Puchestown so I’d bet him with a run if I were you….I wouldn’t be listeneing to anyone about tender rides. Dougie Costello was waiting with the horse to make his move approaching the last and when he asked BK to quicken he did but Katchit just changed gear and he couldn’t get near him…….gave him plenty of encouragement but was never going to get near……..John Quinn said of the horse the better he’s going the longer he should be held up and Dougie gave him a perfect ride, he simply wasn’t good enough on the day……. it’s on U-Tube somewhere. I bet the horse for a small amount months ago but only because I know John and would like to see him win……liking it to happen and thinking it will aren’t the same
March 9, 2008 at 19:30 #149311you guys read something in a newspaper then come on here and repeat it because if it’s in the papers it must be true.
Yeah: we’re the brainwashed masses and you’re the only one who can see through ‘the matrix’.
Please: stop flattering yourself, and stop being a twat and accept that people can disagree with you for rational reasons which they have worked out for themselves.
Best post of the year

It’s the ante-post market that’s suspended, Tuffers, and that’s simply because the "day of the race" market is up. There’s nothing sinister in it.

Doh!
March 9, 2008 at 19:33 #149314It has been suspended in the antepost market and moved to the normal market area
Cheltenham is nearly upon us guys……
March 9, 2008 at 19:39 #149319Nice to see you Zoso
Now ith the niceties out the way let me explain something to you.
Sizing Europe may look to you like he is bunny hopping but that’s simply because of his exceptionally long stride. Most horses like him jump that bit higher as at is a natural thing to do. His high cruising speed emaphaising it as most horses he has met are going to slow for him.
The slowe he goes the more akward he looks but he doesn’t lose ground at his hurdles quite the opposite.I’ve watched this horse dozens of times and apart from getting too close to one in the AIG he jumped brilliantly that day……he’s gained ground at his hurdles against a Champion Hurdle winner not lost ground……Hurdle after hurdle his jockey was taking a pull he was going so well………you guys read something in a newspaper then come on here and repeat it because if it’s in the papers it must be true. Apart from 4th hurdle where he got to close to it he hasn’t lost a yard in the AIG
Since he came of age he has had one blip on his reacord when he fell in Ireland Aimaotov and the 2nd last….he’s jumped brilliantly all the way round clipped the top bar and came down but that is just one of those things….he looked spot on at it but obviously for got to bunny hop
……..good luck to you mate you will need it. IMO
I think this is the post of the year!
I heard them all knocking SE’s hurdling after hitting the phones to get on at 7/2 after the AIG and watched the race several times more. I also watched the Greatwood again. To suggest that he "bunny-hops"is ridiculous.Take it from me, it won’t be his jumping that will get this horse beaten.March 9, 2008 at 19:52 #149321I think this is the post of the year!

That’s an even more idiotic comment- if he has a fault it’s that he treats them with too much respect.
